Used 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class for Sale near California

How much does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class cost?

Prices have softened 8.39% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 383 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

It stands out for bringing Mercedes-like quality to a subcompact performance sedan, and the AMG A 35 4Matic version adds all-wheel drive, a more potent engine, a sport suspension, and a long list of standard features. It is also described as fun to drive, with impressive technology and strong safety credentials among its strengths.

The trade-offs are clear: the styling is uninspired, value for money is poor, and the transmission can be irritating. Even so, if you want a compact luxury sedan with a performance-first personality, this model year fits that brief well.

36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The A-Class is presented as a premium compact sedan with solid build quality, and the AMG version adds a reinforced body structure for additional torsional stiffness. Its performance-oriented setup also suggests a car engineered to handle hard use with confidence.

The performance write-up emphasizes that the A 35 is genuinely fast, with a 4.6-second 0-60 mph time and a driving character that feels composed and confidence-inspiring. On the ownership side, the higher purchase price and performance hardware can mean more expensive long-term upkeep than a mainstream compact sedan.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class?

At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the car has any accident history or visible wear. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s technology and driver-assistance features are functioning properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the front-wheel-drive A 220 sedan, the AWD A 220 4Matic sedan, and the Mercedes-AMG A 35 4Matic sedan. The base A 35 can leave out features you may consider essential, such as navigation, so check equipment carefully before you buy.
• Powertrain: The AMG A 35 uses an AMG-prepared 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and standard 4Matic AWD. It is tuned for quick acceleration and a more engaging drive, but fuel economy takes a hit compared with the non-AMG A 220.
• Safety package: Standard safety features include blind-spot assist, a rearview camera, LED headlights, LED taillights, an advanced airbag protection system, active brake assist, an electronic stability program, and emergency call service. The optional Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist.
• Infotainment: The cabin centers on dual 10.25-inch displays and the MBUX system, with standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free, and audio streaming. The system also supports voice control through “Hey, Mercedes,” and optional navigation-related tech expands the setup further.
• Fuel efficiency: The A 35 is rated at 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway/25 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is offered in 3 trim levels: A 220 sedan, A 220 4Matic sedan, and Mercedes-AMG A 35 4Matic sedan.

Here's the short version:

• A 220 sedan: This is the least expensive way into the A-Class, and it gives you the core Mercedes experience without the AMG performance premium. It makes sense if you want the badge, the cabin, and the tech at the lowest entry price.
• A 220 4Matic sedan: Choose this if you want the same basic formula as the A 220 but with all-wheel drive for added traction and confidence. It is the better pick if you live where weather or road conditions matter.
• Mercedes-AMG A 35 4Matic sedan: This is the best-value choice if you care most about driving enjoyment, because it adds the stronger engine, sport suspension, standard AWD, and the most complete performance character. It is the trim to buy if you want the A-Class at its most compelling.

The optional Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 383 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.39% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,976, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class's resale value?

The current average of $21,976 sits slightly below last year's $23,988.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car is equipped.

Because this model year combines strong performance appeal with premium-brand demand, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include blind-spot assist, a rearview camera, LED headlights, LED taillights, an advanced airbag protection system, active brake assist, an electronic stability program, and emergency call service. The optional Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist, among other features.

The A-Class also benefits from a reinforced front body structure for added torsional stiffness, which should help it feel more controlled in everyday driving. One thing to keep in mind is that neither IIHS nor NHTSA crash-test ratings are listed for this model year.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz A-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.39% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model year stands out for its AMG A 35 performance focus, with a 4.6-second 0-60 mph time and a strong mix of speed, tech, and premium feel.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest blend of performance, technology, and premium character in this lineup, the 2021 is the one to target. If you are more price-sensitive, you can still find value by focusing on the lower-priced listings and prioritizing condition, equipment, and accident history over mileage alone.
