Drivers consistently praise its luxurious feel, strong build quality, and easy handling. What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class?

At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or shows signs of prior bodywork. Pay close attention to how the transmission behaves at low speeds and whether the electronics, screens, and driver-assistance features work as intended. Because the car’s appeal depends so much on condition and equipment, a clean, well-kept example is worth more than one with missing features or unresolved warning lights.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The A-Class comes in sedan form, and the A 220 is available in front-wheel drive or 4Matic all-wheel drive. The base setup is appealing for its upscale interior and strong feature content, while the available packages can add major upgrades such as the larger screens, blind-spot monitoring, keyless entry and ignition, and more advanced safety tech.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine delivers 188 hp and 221 pound-feet of torque, with power that comes on quickly and feels linear. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission can be slow to shift and may stumble at low speeds, so you should test it carefully in stop-and-go driving.
• Safety package: The available Driver Assistance package adds a full suite of semi-autonomous safety features that allow part-time hands-free driving. It is especially useful in heavy traffic, but it does not include the Parking Assistance package’s 360-degree camera and active parking assist.
• Infotainment: The MBUX system uses dual 10.75-inch screens, with a touchscreen on the right side and steering-wheel controls for easier operation. It also supports augmented video, and the interface is highly configurable.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is rated at 25 mpg city, 33 highway, and 28 combined.

Which 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is offered in 1 trim level: A 220.

Here's the short version:

The A 220 is the trim to focus on because it already delivers the core appeal of the car: upscale materials, strong tech, and a premium feel at a relatively accessible price. If you want the best value, this is the one to start with, and then you can decide whether the Premium Package and Driver Assistance package are worth adding for your needs.

The safety package note is simple: the available Driver Assistance package adds the most advanced driver-assistance features, but it does not include the Parking Assistance package’s 360-degree camera and active parking assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 264 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.63% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,843, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class's resale value?

The current average of $16,843 sits slightly below last year's $19,501.

That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current market average or below it, you may reduce the risk of taking a bigger hit later. A clean history and strong equipment content should help keep it appealing to the next buyer.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class safe?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class does not have published crash-test results from NHTSA or IIHS in the available data.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Driver Assistance package adds a full suite of semi-autonomous safety features that allow part-time hands-free driving, and it is especially useful in heavy traffic. The system can also get confused in some city and merging situations, and the augmented video display can be distracting because it pulls your eyes away from the road. If you want the most advanced safety setup, you should look for a car equipped with that package and verify that all related features work properly.

Should I buy a 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• Expert or safety highlight specific to this year: it brings Mercedes’ new entry-level model to North America with standout technology and a more convincing luxury feel than the brand’s previous effort in this space.

The bottom line: The 2019 A-Class is the better pick if you want the strongest mix of price, tech, and luxury feel in this generation. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for a clean, well-equipped example and prioritize condition over options you may not use every day.
