Used 2021 Mazda CX-9 for Sale nearAustin, TX

How much does the 2021 Mazda CX-9 cost?

Prices have softened 8.29% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 546 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mazda CX-9 earns a 4.54/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth handling, reliability, and luxurious interior. The CX-9 also gets credit for comfort, which fits its premium-feeling, family-focused mission.

The trade-offs are clear: the third row is cramped, and the technology is described as outdated and unintuitive. Even so, it makes sense if you want a stylish, comfortable midsize SUV with a more upscale character than many rivals.

With 32.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market activity to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.54/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly points to reliability, with owners describing the CX-9 as dependable and trouble-free over time. That same feedback also emphasizes comfort and a premium-feeling cabin, which usually matters to buyers planning to keep a vehicle for years.

The expert review also supports that impression by describing the CX-9 as a well-built, refined SUV with strong driving manners and a smooth, controlled ride. Mazda’s maintenance perk language is not included here, but the overall ownership picture still looks favorable for shoppers who want a used SUV they can count on.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about living with the CX-9’s space and technology compromises.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mazda CX-9?

At 70.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage affected the body, structure, or safety systems. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on the condition of the suspension, brakes, electronics, and interior wear, especially if the SUV has higher mileage or family-use wear. Because the CX-9’s appeal depends heavily on its premium feel, you should pay close attention to how well the cabin, controls, and driver-assistance features still work.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Sport and Touring sit below the Carbon Edition, while Grand Touring and Signature add more standard features. The base trims use 18-inch wheels, while the Carbon Edition adds a custom look with Polymetal Gray paint, cranberry red leather upholstery, second-row captain’s chairs, and dark-finish 20-inch wheels.
• Powertrain: Every 2021 CX-9 uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on most trims, while the Signature includes all-wheel drive as standard.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and rain-sensing wipers. The Carbon Edition adds adaptive front lighting, a windshield wiper de-icer, a driver-attention monitor, front and rear parking sensors, and Smart City Brake Support Reverse. Grand Touring adds a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: The CX-9 uses a 10.25-inch static display with Mazda Connect, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, text messaging support, Pandora integration, and 9-1-1 automatic emergency notification. Mazda Connect services are standard, and Carbon Edition adds satellite radio, a wireless phone charger, and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The CX-9 is described as thirsty, and the expert review says the Signature is supposed to get 23 mpg combined. In testing, it averaged 20.1 mpg.

Which 2021 Mazda CX-9 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Carbon Edition, Grand Touring, Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the CX-9’s core strengths without the extra luxury touches. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and care most about the driving experience and standard safety equipment.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete everyday setup without jumping too far up the price ladder. It keeps the CX-9’s premium feel while staying focused on the essentials.
• Carbon Edition: This is the most distinctive midrange choice, with Polymetal Gray paint, cranberry red leather, second-row captain’s chairs, dark-finish 20-inch wheels, satellite radio, a wireless charger, a head-up display, and added safety tech. It’s the trim to target if you want the strongest mix of style and equipment.
• Grand Touring: This trim adds a surround-view camera system and more standard luxury features, so it suits you if convenience and visibility matter more than value.
• Signature: This is the most upscale version, with the richest cabin materials and standard all-wheel drive. It’s the right pick if you want the most premium CX-9 experience and are willing to pay for it.

The Carbon Edition is the standout value choice, while the Signature is the most fully equipped. Safety tech expands as you move up the lineup, with the Carbon Edition and Grand Touring bringing meaningful upgrades.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mazda CX-9?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 546 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.29% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,241, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mazda CX-9's resale value?

The current average of $22,241 sits slightly below last year's $24,252.

That price movement suggests the CX-9 has softened, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price now, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. The model’s premium-feeling cabin and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand, but the market is still pricing it below where it was a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.54/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 safe?

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star frontal-impact ratings for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and rain-sensing wipers. The Carbon Edition adds adaptive front lighting, a windshield wiper de-icer, a driver-attention monitor, front and rear parking sensors, and Smart City Brake Support Reverse, while Grand Touring adds a surround-view camera system.

One caveat is that lane-centering assistance is unavailable, and the adaptive cruise system can struggle to smoothly maintain following distance at higher speeds. Even so, the CX-9’s safety package is broad, and the available upgrades make higher trims especially appealing if safety tech is a priority.

Should I buy a 2021 Mazda CX-9 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.29% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.54/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 update brings a newer infotainment system, added safety tech, and a more upscale Carbon Edition.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $24,084, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $22,241 average.
• It adds standard all-wheel drive and six trim levels.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2021 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and the model-year updates improve its appeal. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer version with standard AWD, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative. For most price-sensitive shoppers, the 2021 offers the stronger balance of equipment, satisfaction, and market value.
