Used 2021 Lexus RX for Sale nearVirginia Beach, VA

How much does the 2021 Lexus RX cost?

Prices have softened 2.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,495 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Lexus RX a good car?

Yes — 4.92/5. It earns an expert rating of 7.83/10.

The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, luxurious features, and smooth driving experience. Comfort and handling also come through as recurring positives, which fits a midsize luxury SUV aimed at relaxed daily driving.

The trade-offs are that performance is fairly pedestrian and the technology can be unintuitive. For you, that means the RX makes the most sense if you value comfort, upscale amenities, and an easygoing commute more than sharp acceleration or cutting-edge interfaces.

Only 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the best examples may still require quick action.

Is the 2021 Lexus RX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.92/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners repeatedly describe it as reliable and praise its trouble-free, long-term ownership appeal. The expert summary also reinforces Lexus’ reputation for dependability, and the performance notes describe it as a comfortable cruiser that feels planted and easy to guide.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to Lexus’ value proposition, which helps support the case for lower ownership stress over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about whether the specific vehicle has been maintained well and kept in good condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Lexus RX?

At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Pay close attention to body condition, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair work, since accident history can affect both value and long-term satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RX, RX F Sport, RXL, RX Hybrid, and RXL Hybrid are the named variants. The base RX and RX Hybrid are the entry points, while the RXL and RXL Hybrid add an extended body and a third row of seating. The F Sport adds a more aggressive look and sport-oriented details, but the base model already includes a strong set of comfort and convenience features.
• Powertrain: The standard RX, RXL, and RX F Sport use a 3.5-liter V6 with 295 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque paired with an eight-speed automatic. Hybrid versions use a 3.5-liter V6 with three electric motors and an e-CVT, with AWD standard.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 is standard and includes pre-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keep assist, lane-trace assist, and road sign assist. Every RX also includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, HD Radio, a WiFi hot spot, six USB ports, and a nine-speaker sound system. A 12.3-inch screen is available, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not.
• Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive RX 350 returns 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined. AWD or the RXL trims reduce combined efficiency by 1 mpg, and the RXL with AWD gets 21 mpg combined. Hybrid models return 29 or 31 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, depending on the version.

Which 2021 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2021 Lexus RX is offered in 5 trim levels: RX, RX F Sport, RXL, RX Hybrid, and RXL Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• RX: This is the best starting point if you want the core RX experience with a strong comfort focus, standard luxury touches, and the broadest value appeal. It already includes the key cabin and tech features most shoppers want, making it the most sensible choice for many buyers.
• RX F Sport: Choose this if you want the most performance-focused version of the lineup and prefer a sportier look and feel. It adds more aggressive styling and sport-oriented hardware, but the RX still remains more comfort-first than genuinely sporty.
• RXL: Pick this if you need the extended body and third row. It’s the right choice when passenger flexibility matters more than keeping the shortest, easiest-to-park version.
• RX Hybrid: This is the efficiency-minded choice if you want the standard two-row layout but prefer better fuel economy and standard AWD.
• RXL Hybrid: Go here if you want the third row and hybrid efficiency together. It’s the most practical pick for families who need extra seating and want to keep fuel use in check.

The standard safety suite is included across the lineup, so you do not need to move up trims to get the core driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Lexus RX?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,495 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.72% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,274, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $35,381 sits slightly below last year's $36,372.

That softer pricing suggests the RX has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned to limit your loss when it’s time to sell.

The RX’s strong owner satisfaction should also help support demand in the used market. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.92/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Lexus RX safe?

The 2021 Lexus RX earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and four-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side-impact crashworthiness.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every RX comes with Lexus Safety System+ 2.0, which includes pre-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keep assist, lane-trace assist, and road sign assist. It also includes a rearview camera, 10 airbags, enhanced vehicle stability control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

One caveat is that the longer RXL and RXL Hybrid versions were not tested by IIHS, so you should be especially careful to verify the condition and history of those variants if you’re shopping used.

Should I buy a 2021 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.92/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds new standard safety systems while keeping the RX’s comfort-first formula intact.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $32,945, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $35,381 average.
• It emphasizes comfort, refinement, and a practical two-row or three-row layout.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $38,992, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $35,381 average.
• It adds minimal changes, including new colors and a standalone fog lamps option.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, comfort, and updated safety content, the 2021 is the sweet spot. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer example, the 2022 is a reasonable carryover choice, but not a major upgrade.
