Used 2021 Lexus RX for Sale near Illinois

How much does the 2021 Lexus RX cost?

There are 1,411 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Lexus RX a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.9/5, and the expert rating is 7.8/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, luxurious features, smooth driving experience, comfort, and handling. In practical terms, that lines up with the RX’s comfort-focused mission: it’s built for you if you want a premium SUV that feels easy to live with rather than especially sporty.

The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and unintuitive technology. Even so, the RX’s broad appeal comes from its blend of refinement, comfort, and value, and 38.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2021 Lexus RX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many owners saying they feel confident counting on it over time. The expert evaluation also describes Lexus’ tradition of reliability as carrying through to the RX, and the model’s comfort-oriented, easy-to-live-with character supports that reputation.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the vehicle has been maintained well enough to preserve that dependable feel.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Lexus RX?

At 71.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and any signs of prior repair. Because the RX is a luxury SUV with a lot of comfort and tech equipment, it also makes sense to check that the cabin features, infotainment functions, and safety systems all work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RX lineup includes the RX, RX F Sport, RXL, RX Hybrid, and RXL Hybrid. The base RX and RX Hybrid are the entry points in their respective powertrain families, while the RXL and RXL Hybrid add an extended body and a third row of seating. The RX F Sport is the most performance-focused version, and the base RX is the best-value starting point if you want the core luxury experience without paying for extra body length or sport-oriented extras.
• Powertrain: The standard RX uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 295 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. The hybrid models use a 3.5-liter V6 with three electric motors for 308 hp and an e-CVT, and they come standard with AWD.
• Safety package: Every RX comes with Lexus Safety System+ 2.0, which includes pre-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keep assist, lane-trace assist, and road sign assist. Standard equipment also includes a rearview camera, 10 airbags, enhanced vehicle stability control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Standard tech includes an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, HD Radio, a WiFi hot spot, six USB ports, and a nine-speaker sound system. A 12.3-inch screen, wireless charging, navigation, and upgraded audio are available, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.
• Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive RX 350 returns 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, while the hybrid models are rated at 29 or 31 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, depending on configuration.

Which 2021 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2021 Lexus RX is offered in 5 trim levels: RX, RX F Sport, RXL, RX Hybrid, and RXL Hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• RX: This is the best-value choice if you want the core RX experience: strong comfort, a well-appointed cabin, and the standard luxury and safety equipment without paying for the extended body or sport-focused extras.
• RX F Sport: Choose this if you want the most driver-focused version of the RX. It adds a more aggressive appearance and sport-oriented hardware, including F Sport-specific wheels, badging, steering wheel, meter, and performance dampers.
• RXL: Pick this if you need the longer body and the third row of seating. It’s the right fit when passenger flexibility matters more than keeping the footprint compact.
• RX Hybrid: This is the efficiency-minded choice in the standard-body lineup. It adds hybrid power and standard AWD while keeping the RX’s comfort-first personality.
• RXL Hybrid: Choose this if you want the hybrid powertrain and the extra seating flexibility of the longer body in one package.

Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 is standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Lexus RX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 38.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,411 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.42% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $34,952, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $34,952 sits slightly below last year's $35,817.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also suggests future sellers may need to stay realistic on asking price. If the market continues to favor shoppers, resale values may remain under some pressure unless the vehicle is especially well kept and well equipped.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Lexus RX safe?

The 2021 Lexus RX earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS and four-star overall ratings from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side-impact crashworthiness.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every RX comes standard with Lexus Safety System+ 2.0, which includes pre-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, cyclist detection, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keep assist, lane-trace assist, and road sign assist. You also get a rearview camera, 10 airbags, enhanced vehicle stability control, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

One caveat is that the longer RXL versions were not tested by IIHS, so you should pay extra attention to condition and equipment if you’re shopping those variants.

Should I buy a 2021 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 38.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.42% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 brings new standard safety systems while keeping the RX’s comfort-focused formula.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $32,183, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $34,952 average.
• It emphasizes comfort, quietness, and practical usefulness.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $38,020, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $34,952 average.
• It adds new colors and a standalone fog lamps option.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, comfort, and current-market availability, the 2021 is the sweet spot. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2020 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer model-year listing, the 2022 is the next step up.
