Used 2021 Lexus GX for Sale nearNew York, NY

How much does the 2021 Lexus GX cost?

Prices have softened 2.50% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 811 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Lexus GX a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.2/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 5.3/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 7/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxury, dependability, and beautiful design, especially the interior and quiet driving experience. The GX also appeals if you want a rugged SUV with real off-road hardware and a premium cabin. The trade-offs are clear: outdated technology, poor fuel economy, and limited cargo space and towing capability. That makes it a better fit if you value character, comfort, and capability over modern polish. Good and great deals account for 39.3% of listings, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Lexus GX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. Owners also describe it as dependable and appreciate that it feels like a vehicle you can count on over time. The expert review reinforces that impression by noting Lexus’s excellent reputation for reliability and the GX’s long-running, proven design. Lexus also backs it with a four-year, 50,000-mile basic warranty and a six-year, 70,000-mile powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that age-related wear and outdated hardware can make upkeep and daily use less satisfying than in newer rivals.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Lexus GX?

At 74.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has seen trail use or heavy family-duty miles. Focus on body condition, interior wear, and signs that the truck-like chassis has been used hard. Because this model is older in design, you should also pay close attention to how well the electronics and cabin features still function.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim is the most stripped-down version, while Premium adds more comfort and convenience equipment and Luxury brings the most upscale cabin treatment. The Premium trim also gets standard silver 18-inch wheels, while the Luxury trim adds semi-aniline leather and can be paired with an adaptive suspension.
• Powertrain: You get a single 4.6-liter V8 with 301 horsepower and 329 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It delivers strong low-speed grunt, but the GX is heavy and needs planning for passing and braking.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard too, but traffic-sign recognition and Lane Tracing Assist are not included.
• Infotainment: The GX uses a 2021-era system with Bluetooth, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant connectivity, but no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Two USB ports for each of the first two rows are standard, and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson audio system is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The GX is rated at 15 mpg city and 19 mpg highway, with 16 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Lexus GX trim should I buy?

The 2021 Lexus GX is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Premium, Luxury.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the GX’s core strengths — the V8, standard four-wheel drive, and rugged body-on-frame character — without paying for extra luxury features.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished feel without changing the GX’s fundamental formula. It also gets standard silver 18-inch wheels, and it was the test vehicle used in the expert review.
• Luxury: Choose this if you want the most upscale GX experience. It adds semi-aniline leather and can be paired with the adaptive suspension, plus the available Off-Road Package if you want the most trail-focused setup.

Lexus Safety System+ is standard across the lineup, but the GX still misses some driver-assistance features found on other Lexus and Toyota models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Lexus GX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 39.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 811 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.50% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $40,974, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Lexus GX's resale value?

The current average of $41,234 sits slightly below last year's $42,290.

That softer pricing suggests the GX is holding value reasonably well, but not strongly enough to signal rising demand. If you plan to sell later, the current trend implies you may need to price competitively to move the vehicle. The GX’s niche appeal can help support demand among buyers who want a rugged luxury SUV, but its age and fuel economy remain headwinds. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Lexus GX safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

As with other Lexus models, the GX 460 gets the Lexus Safety System+ bundle of driver aids as standard equipment. This includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard as well. However, the GX misses out on traffic-sign recognition and Lane Tracing Assist automated lane centering.

Should I buy a 2021 Lexus GX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 39.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds a new Premium Plus Package and acoustic front side glass.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $37,078, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $41,234 average.
• It offers refreshed styling and the same rugged, comfortable identity.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $46,788, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $41,234 average.
• It emphasizes off-road ability and towing with the same standard V8 and four-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and availability, the 2021 is the sensible pick. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2020 is the better value path, while the 2022 makes sense only if you want to pay more for the newer model year.

How does the 2021 Lexus GX compare to the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2021 Lexus GX:

• Pros: Powerful engine, Premium interior materials, Comfortable.
• Cons: Poor fuel economy, Poor handling, Outdated technology.

2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport:

• Pros: Multiple powertrain options, Capable off-road, Available with three-row seating.
• Cons: Unintuitive technology, Limited cargo space with third row.

Our experts score the 2021 Lexus GX 5.3/10 and the 2021 Land Rover Range Rover Sport 8/10. The GX is the more old-school choice, with a strong engine and a comfortable, premium cabin, but it gives up ground on handling, fuel economy, and technology. The Range Rover Sport brings more powertrain variety and a higher expert score, plus three-row availability, but its tech is less intuitive and cargo space suffers with the third row in place.
