Used 2021 Lexus GX for Sale nearNew Haven, CT

How much does the 2021 Lexus GX cost?

Prices have softened 2.24% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 796 listings available, which suggests a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Lexus GX a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Lexus GX earns 4.2/5 from owners and 5.3/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Look and feel at 7/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxury, dependability, and quiet driving experience, along with the interior and distinctive design. The GX also fits you well if you want a luxury SUV with real off-road hardware and a premium cabin rather than the latest tech. Trade-offs include outdated technology and poor fuel economy, plus limited cargo space and towing capability. Good and great deals account for 36.7% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Lexus GX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to dependability, reliability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers saying they can count on it over the long term. The GX also benefits from a rugged, traditional SUV design that supports durability-minded buyers. Lexus includes a standard maintenance perk in the ownership package. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related wear and outdated hardware can make condition more important than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Lexus GX?

At 74% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of body, interior, and mechanical condition. Because this model is older in design and light on modern tech, you should pay close attention to how well the cabin, electronics, and drivetrain have held up. If you are comparing multiple listings, focus on maintenance records and signs of hard use, especially on vehicles that may have seen towing or off-road duty.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim is the most stripped-down choice, while Premium adds more everyday comfort and Luxury brings the most upscale feel. The Premium trim also gets standard silver 18-inch wheels, and the Luxury trim adds semi-aniline leather plus an adaptive suspension.
• Powertrain: You get a single 4.6-liter V8 with 301 horsepower and a six-speed automatic, so there is no engine choice to sort through. It delivers strong low-speed grunt, but the GX is still heavy and not especially quick or efficient.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ is standard, with forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard too, but traffic-sign recognition and Lane Tracing Assist are not included.
• Infotainment: The GX uses a 2021-era system with Bluetooth, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant connectivity, but no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The touchscreen is basic, though Lexus offsets that with physical controls and shortcut buttons.
• Fuel efficiency: The GX is rated at 15 mpg city and 19 mpg highway, with 16 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Lexus GX trim should I buy?

The 2021 Lexus GX is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Premium, and Luxury.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the simplest way into the GX, but it is also the least equipped. If you want the GX’s rugged V8-and-4WD formula at the lowest price, this is the starting point.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished feel without changing the GX’s core character. It also gets standard silver 18-inch wheels, and it was the midlevel test vehicle in our review.
• Luxury: This is the trim to choose if you want the most comfort and the most capability-focused extras. It adds semi-aniline leather, adaptive suspension, and access to the optional Off-Road Package with Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select, a multi-view camera system, a transmission cooler, and a fuel-tank protector.

Safety-wise, Lexus Safety System+ is standard across the lineup, but the GX still misses some features found in other Lexus and Toyota models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Lexus GX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to make timing matter.

• Deal availability: 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 796 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.24% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $40,972, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Lexus GX's resale value?

The current average of $41,428 sits slightly below last year's $42,375.

That softer pricing suggests the GX has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. Because the market is still showing steady demand and a meaningful share of listings are considered good or great deals, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. The model’s owner satisfaction also helps support buyer interest over time.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Lexus GX safe?

The 2021 Lexus GX has not been rated by either NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System+ is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard too. Even so, the GX misses some features that are available on other Lexus models, including traffic-sign recognition and Lane Tracing Assist.

Should I buy a 2021 Lexus GX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.24% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the rugged body-on-frame formula, standard V8, and true off-road capability.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $37,049, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $41,428 average.
• It offers old-school toughness with a more memorable facelift.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $46,926, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $41,428 average.
• It emphasizes rugged capability and towing even more clearly.

The bottom line: If you want the GX’s distinctive rugged character and can live with its age, the 2021 is the balanced choice. If price matters most, the 2020 is the value play; if you want the newest version of the same formula, look to the 2022.
