How much does the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 11.77% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,449 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise the spacious interior, smooth ride, and impressive power. They also call out the luxury feel and advanced technology features, while still noting that it feels like a good value to many shoppers.

The trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the fact that some tech features cost extra. The overview also points to a model that fits buyers who care more about style, comfort, and driving character than maximum efficiency or a long standard-equipment list.

The market shows 36.0% good or great deals, so there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as reliable, dependable, and a vehicle they can count on over the long term, with especially strong praise for its spacious cabin and smooth everyday behavior. The expert evaluation also frames it as a durable, capable SUV with real-world toughness and authentic ruggedness.

Jeep Wave Customer Care includes free scheduled maintenance for the first three years and 36,000 miles of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related wear and uneven maintenance history can matter more than the model’s reputation alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 73.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you get too far into the process, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the listing has any accident or repair history. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the equipment on the truck matches the trim you think you are buying.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Laredo and Limited are the affordable trims, while the Overland and Summit move the Grand Cherokee toward a more upscale feel. The Summit adds a premium look and cabin materials, but the base trims are where you are most likely to feel feature gaps.
• Powertrain: The standard 3.6-liter V6 makes 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 5.7-liter V8 makes 360 hp and 390 lb-ft and can tow up to 7,200 pounds. The V8 adds stronger performance, but it also brings worse fuel economy.
• Safety package: The ProTech II Package includes adaptive cruise control with full stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. These features are not standard across the lineup.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 4C with Nav uses a touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and Jeep Skill for Amazon Alexa. The system also supports voice recognition and over-the-air-style connected services through SiriusXM features.
• Fuel efficiency: The V8 is expected to return no more than 17 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 18.2 mpg on a mixed route.

Which 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 7 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Laredo X, 80th Anniversary Edition, Overland, Summit, and Trailhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point if you want the Grand Cherokee formula at the lowest cost, but you should expect the fewest standard features and the most obvious value-oriented compromises.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished feel without pushing you into the pricier luxury end of the lineup.
• Laredo X: This version builds on the value-focused Laredo with a special-edition twist, making it a better pick if you want a little more personality without moving up too far in price.
• 80th Anniversary Edition: This trim is for you if you want a commemorative version with extra visual distinction and a more special-occasion feel.
• Overland: This is the step up if you want a more upscale Grand Cherokee with a stronger luxury lean.
• Summit: This is the most premium mainstream choice, with the richest cabin presentation and the most upscale equipment in the lineup.
• Trailhawk: This is the one to choose if off-road capability matters most, since it is the serious adventure-focused trim in the middle of the range.

The safety package is not standard on every trim, so verify whether the listing includes the driver-assistance equipment you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,449 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.77% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,137, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $22,137 sits slightly below last year's $25,089.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means resale value may be more sensitive to condition, mileage, and equipment than it would be in a rising-price market.

Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong equipment should hold up better than average, especially if they present clean history and good maintenance records. The current pricing also leaves less room for further depreciation shock than a vehicle that is still overpriced relative to its peers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA in 4WD form, while 2WD versions earn a four-star overall rating and a three-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard ProTech II Package includes adaptive cruise control with full stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights.

The main caveat is the IIHS performance: the Grand Cherokee earns a Marginal driver rating and a Poor front-passenger rating in small-overlap frontal testing, and its headlights also rate Poor unless you upgrade to the better lighting setup.

Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is the outgoing two-row Grand Cherokee, so you get the familiar formula before the redesign.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,125, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $22,137 average.
• It is a versatile, capable midsize SUV with strong style and off-road character.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $26,445, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $22,137 average.
• It brings a redesigned cabin with a meaningful technology and sophistication upgrade.

The bottom line: If you want the familiar Grand Cherokee experience and a softer used price, the 2021 is the better primary target. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 can save you money, while the 2022 makes sense if you want the redesign and are willing to pay more for it.
