How much does the 2021 Jeep Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 10.03% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,216 listings available, which suggests you have a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Jeep Cherokee earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Drivers commonly praise its great value, smooth ride, and numerous safety features, and many also like the advanced technology and off-road capability. In use-case terms, that lines up well if you want a midsize SUV that feels more distinctive than the average crossover and still covers everyday family-hauling duties.

The trade-offs are clear: the base engine is underwhelming, and cargo space is limited. The expert notes also point to a polarizing design and a price point that leaves room to cross-shop other SUVs.

With 34.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to find a strong example.

Is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable, trouble-free, and worth counting on over time, especially when the Cherokee is used as a daily driver. The expert evaluation also describes it as good at what it does and capable of doing a lot more than you’d expect, which supports the idea that it can be a solid long-term companion when maintained properly.

The Cherokee also benefits from a fuel-saving nine-speed automatic transmission that has proved itself capable over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure you choose a well-kept example, since condition and maintenance history matter more than the badge alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Cherokee?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if it looks clean on the listing page. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks for wear, prior damage, and whether the equipment matches the trim you’re considering. Focus on condition details that affect daily use, especially if you want the Cherokee for commuting, family duty, or light adventure.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The entry-level Latitude with 17-inch wheels and front-wheel drive looks and feels more basic, while the 80th Anniversary Edition adds 19-inch Granite Crystal wheels and painted lower body cladding for a nicer appearance. The panoramic sunroof is another notable upgrade if you want a more open cabin feel.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower, a 3.2-liter V-6 with 271 hp, or a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 270 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque. The turbo engine is optional on the Latitude Lux and Limited, and the Cherokee also uses a nine-speed automatic transmission.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes lane departure warning with lane keep assist, full-speed forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise control with stop and go is limited to the Limited and Trailhawk, and it is part of an option package on the Trailhawk.
• Infotainment: The Cherokee uses Uconnect with a 7-inch touchscreen on the Latitude, Latitude Plus, and Latitude Lux, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen on the Limited and Trailhawk. It supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but wired only, and it can also be equipped with a 4G WiFi hotspot and Amazon Alexa integration.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA-rated fuel economy reaches up to 31 mpg highway on FWD models with the optional 2.0-liter turbo engine. The AWD base 2.4-liter model is rated at 29 mpg highway, 21 mpg city, and 24 mpg combined, while AWD V-6 models with Active Drive II return 21 mpg combined and 18 mpg city.

Which 2021 Jeep Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2021 Jeep Cherokee is offered in 5 trim levels: Latitude, Latitude Plus, Latitude Lux, Limited, Trailhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Latitude: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Cherokee lineup. It gets the 7-inch touchscreen and the standard safety suite, but it is the most basic-feeling version.
• Latitude Plus: This is the better-value step up if you want a little more equipment without jumping too far up the price ladder. It keeps the same core tech and safety foundation while giving you a more appealing middle ground.
• Latitude Lux: This is the trim to watch if you want the strongest blend of features and value. It adds access to the 2.0-liter turbo engine and sits in the sweet spot for shoppers who want more refinement without going all the way to the upper trims.
• Limited: This is the right choice if you want the more upscale cabin and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen. It also unlocks adaptive cruise control with stop and go, which makes it the most appealing comfort-and-tech trim for many buyers.
• Trailhawk: This is the one to choose if you want the Cherokee’s most capability-focused setup. It pairs the larger touchscreen with the off-road-oriented hardware and also offers adaptive cruise control, though that feature is part of an option package.

The standard safety package is strong across the lineup, but adaptive cruise control is not standard on every trim, so check equipment carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Cherokee?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,216 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.03% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 76.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,681, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $18,681 sits slightly below last year's $20,763.

That price movement suggests the Cherokee has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it comes time to sell. The key is to avoid overpaying for a trim or option package that the market does not reward strongly.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee safe?

The Cherokee did not earn a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, and it earns a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes lane departure warning with lane keep assist, full-speed forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise control with stop and go is limited to the Limited and Trailhawk, and it is part of an option package on the Trailhawk.

The main caveat is the headlight performance: upper trims received an Acceptable rating, while the rest received a Marginal rating.

Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model stands out for its impressive, easy-to-use technology and broad capability, while still offering a distinctive design.

The bottom line: If you want a used Cherokee with strong tech, solid owner satisfaction, and a softer price than a year ago, the 2021 is a sensible target. If you are especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for the best deal and the cleanest history, since the market still has enough inventory to reward patience.
