CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Hyundai Venue
overall

Summary
With 387 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,884, 29.2% of 2021 Hyundai Venues for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Hyundai Venue 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
76.0% of 2021 Venue models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Hyundai Venue stands out as a tiny crossover that delivers the look and feel of an SUV while keeping the footprint, and very nearly the price, of a hatchback. It is described as a surprisingly competent runabout despite its bargain-bin price, which makes it appealing to shoppers who want crossover style without moving up to a larger, more expensive vehicle.
Its strengths are centered on value and usability. The Venue earns praise for impressive technology, easy-to-use technology, and standard advanced safety features, all of which help it feel more modern than its size and price might suggest. The tradeoffs are just as clear: performance is sluggish, all-wheel drive is not available, and cargo space is limited. For buyers who prioritize affordability, simple tech, and a compact footprint over power or utility, that combination is the Venue’s main appeal.

We recently purchased the Hyundai venue for my daughter. We are extremely happy with this vehicle and it offers many safety and convenience options. I would highly recommend considering and purchasing the Hyundai Venue if you are in the market for this style vehicle.

Reviewed a 2021 Hyundai Venue on May 13, 2022
A very small SUV. There is little to no leg room in the back seat. Front feels very narrow. Cargo space in the back was sufficient for the size of the car. The blind spots were a major issue I noticed while test driving the car. I also wished it had a center console between the two front seats. Felt like something was missing without these. It had nice features, Bluetooth, apple car play (android equivalent), and back up camera. Overall not a bad car for a smaller person that doesn’t intend on having any adults in the back seat.

How much does the 2021 Hyundai Venue cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $13,851 |
| Year-Round Low | $13,349 |
| Year-Round High | $14,726 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,721 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.91% |
Prices have softened 5.91% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 382 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Venue a good car?
Generally — the 2021 Hyundai Venue earns 4/5 from users and 7.33/10 from expert testing. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
It stands out as a tiny crossover that gives you SUV styling in a hatchback-sized package, and it leans hard into value, usability, and modern tech. The tradeoffs are clear: performance is sluggish, all-wheel drive is not available, and cargo space is limited.
If you want affordable crossover style with simple, easy-to-use technology and standard safety features, this year’s Venue fits that brief well. 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Venue reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Venue is presented as a low-cost, easy-to-live-with small crossover, and its ownership case is strengthened by Hyundai’s 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty. It also returns solid fuel economy, with an EPA estimate of 30 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 31 mpg combined.
That combination points to a used SUV that should be relatively manageable to own if you keep up with routine maintenance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity and more about making sure the vehicle has been cared for consistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Hyundai Venue?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re shopping outside the cleanest listings. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior damage, and whether the car’s equipment and safety systems work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SE is the simplest version, while the SEL adds features that make the Venue feel more complete. The SEL also picks up equipment that was previously part of an extra-cost package, including 17-inch alloy wheels, a sliding armrest and storage box, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a selection of advanced driver-assistance systems.
- Powertrain: The Venue uses a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 121 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is the only drivetrain, and a CVT is the only transmission for this year.
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning are standard on all trims. The SEL and Denim add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The interface is designed for simple use, with physical controls and quick response.
- Fuel efficiency: The Venue returns 30 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 31 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Hyundai Venue trim should I buy?
The 2021 Hyundai Venue is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SEL, Denim.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Venue’s core value proposition: compact crossover styling, standard safety tech, and the easy-to-use infotainment setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim. It adds the features that make the Venue feel more polished, including the upgraded wheels, interior convenience items, and additional driver-assistance equipment that were previously bundled separately.
- Denim: This is the style-focused choice. It stands out with its unique appearance and white roof, so it suits you best if design matters more than maximizing value.
Safety features are standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is reserved for the SEL and Denim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Hyundai Venue?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.
- Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 382 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.91% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 75.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,349, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Hyundai Venue's resale value?
The current average of $13,851 sits slightly below last year's $14,721.
That softer pricing suggests the Venue has become easier for buyers to access, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, that also means you may need to price competitively if you want your listing to stand out.
The good news is that the model’s value-focused reputation and strong equipment list can help keep it appealing to budget-minded shoppers. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Hyundai Venue safe?
The Venue managed four out of five stars in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s driver-side front collision, passenger-side front collision, and rollover tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning are standard on all trims, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is added on the SEL and Denim. That means the base trim gives you a strong core safety package, but the higher trims add useful extra coverage for lane changes and reversing.
Should I buy a 2021 Hyundai Venue or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.91% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 adds standard advanced safety features and improved trim value, especially on the SEL.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $13,980, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $13,851 average.
- It emphasizes affordable, economical commuting with hatchback-like practicality.
The 2021 is the better primary pick if you want the strongest mix of value, tech, and safety at today’s pricing. If you’re shopping strictly on sticker price, the 2020 can still make sense, but the 2021’s softer market and better-equipped trims give you a more compelling buy.
