CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Honda Passport
overall

Summary
With 925 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,645, 30.5% of 2021 Honda Passports for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Honda Passport 4.8 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
76.4% of 2021 Passport models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Honda Passport stands out as a two-row midsize SUV that bridges the gap between outdoor adventure and daily life. Honda says it carries over to 2021 largely unchanged, but with some additional features, and its name also nods back to the brand’s earlier rugged SUV era. It is closely related to the Honda Pilot, yet it is positioned as a more active alternative with features not found on the family-hauling Pilot.
For buyers, the Passport’s appeal comes from its mix of comfort and capability. The test-drive data highlights great handling, a powerful engine, and a comfortable ride, while owners commonly praise its comfort, spaciousness, smooth handling, cargo space, and audio quality. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: the transmission is described as irritating, the seats as uncomfortable, and some drivers miss ventilated seats.

I have to be honest, I hadn't thought about a honda at all when I started searching. But this Passport is a nice vehicle. Lots of room, head and Leg. I am 6'1" tall and I have to bring the driver seat up to be comfortable driving safely. The Power from the 6 cycle is great for accelerating on to the highway. I like the style of it. It sounds solid when I close my doors. Will see how it holds up.

Very nice car. Comfortable and many great features. We were upgrading from a 2003, so there were lots of things we got in this vehicle that we didnt have. Love the 1 and 2 driver seat adjustment. The seats are very comfortable. The car has a very tight and smooth handling feel. Seats are comfortable and seems like it will be comfortable on long trips.

Yes — the 2021 Honda Passport earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating.
The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its comfort, spaciousness, smooth handling, cargo space, and audio quality. That lines up well with the Passport’s role as a two-row midsize SUV that bridges daily driving and weekend use. The main trade-offs are an irritating transmission and uncomfortable seats, so you should weigh those against the strong comfort-and-utility mix.
With 32.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Honda Passport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels comfortable, spacious, and easy to live with over time, with value and cargo space standing out as recurring strengths. The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the Passport as offering reliability alongside a comfortable ride and strong everyday usability.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the transmission and seat comfort issues on a specific vehicle are acceptable to you.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Passport?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 77% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status does not replace a proper inspection. Prioritize a test drive that lets you evaluate the transmission behavior, seat comfort, and overall condition of the cabin and controls. If you want the best value, compare equipment closely so you do not overpay for features you may not need.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport includes 20-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, push-button start, tri-zone climate control, a seven-speaker audio system, and a one-touch fold-down rear bench. EX-L adds leather upholstery, a power moonroof, a power rear liftgate, walk-away auto-locking, reverse-tilting side mirrors, one-touch power windows, and power-adjustable front seats. Touring adds front-and-rear parking sensors, a hands-free liftgate, a 115-volt outlet, an upgraded 10-speaker stereo, satellite-linked navigation, and a WiFi hotspot. Elite adds heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and wireless device charging.
- Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque paired with a nine-speed automatic. You get standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive, and the V6 is described as strong while the transmission manages power well.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control that can stop and go. Available features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors.
- Infotainment: The Passport gets a standard 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Honda also makes wireless device charging available on the Elite.
- Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models return 20 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. All-wheel-drive models return 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Honda Passport trim should I buy?
The 2021 Honda Passport is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong equipment list, including 20-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, push-button start, tri-zone climate control, a seven-speaker audio system, and a one-touch fold-down rear bench. It makes sense if you want the Passport’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not use.
- EX-L: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather upholstery, a power moonroof, a power rear liftgate, walk-away auto-locking, reverse-tilting mirrors, and power-adjustable front seats. If you want a more upscale daily driver, this is the trim to target first.
- Touring: This trim adds front-and-rear parking sensors, a hands-free liftgate, a 115-volt outlet, an upgraded 10-speaker stereo, satellite-linked navigation, and a WiFi hotspot. Choose it if you want more convenience and tech for family use or road trips.
- Elite: This is the top trim and adds heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and wireless device charging. It suits you if you want the most comfort-focused Passport.
Available driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Passport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 959 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.55% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 77.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,988, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Honda Passport's resale value?
The current average of $24,623 sits slightly below last year's $26,069.
That softer pricing suggests the Passport has become more accessible for used buyers, which can help demand stay healthy in the near term. For a future seller, the current market shows that pricing discipline matters, especially if you want to stand out against a fairly large pool of listings. The year’s strong owner satisfaction also helps support buyer interest over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Honda Passport safe?
The Passport earns an overall rating of five-star ratings from NHTSA, and the IIHS gave it top "Good" scores in most crash tests, with an "Acceptable" rating in the passenger-side small overlap front crash test.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control that can stop and go with traffic. Available driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors. The main caveat is that the IIHS gave it only an "Acceptable" result for the passenger-side small overlap front crash test, along with "Acceptable" ratings for headlights and child-seat anchor ease of use.
Should I buy a 2021 Honda Passport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It carries over largely unchanged, but adds some additional features.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $22,943, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $24,623 average.
- It offers a rugged two-row crossover feel with thoughtful interior functionality.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $29,634, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $24,623 average.
- It adds a light restyle, TrailSport branding, revised wheels, fresh colors, and new safety features.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and current-market availability, the 2021 is the primary pick. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2020 can save you money while keeping much of the Passport’s core appeal.
