Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the 2021 Sierra 2500HD’s appeal comes from its upscale heavy-duty-truck character. It offers more trim levels than the related Silverado 2500HD, plus a wider spread of premium features, so you can shop for a work truck that still feels well equipped. If you want a three-quarter-ton pickup with luxury-leaning trims and broad configuration choice, this model year fits that brief well.

34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

The 2021 Sierra 2500HD is described as a capable heavy-duty truck with upscale features, but it also has known trouble spots that used buyers should take seriously. The overview points to issues such as check engine lights tied to diesel particulate filters or emissions sensors, sluggish infotainment responses, rough or delayed shifts, electrical glitches, MultiPro tailgate flaws, and faulty trailer brake controllers. That means your best long-term ownership outcome depends on finding a well-maintained example with clean service history and no unresolved warning lights or drivability concerns.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a thorough inspection of the truck’s mechanical and electrical systems. Pay close attention to warning lights, transmission behavior, infotainment operation, tailgate function, and trailer-brake operation, since those are the kinds of issues that can become expensive later. Condition matters especially on a heavy-duty truck, so look closely at signs of hard use, towing wear, and any evidence of deferred maintenance.

If you find a listing below $49,919, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $49,919 sits slightly below last year's $53,052.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future resale if you buy at the right number. Because the truck still has broad appeal as an upscale heavy-duty pickup, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether the truck has a clean history and complete maintenance records.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.91% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $48,555, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $49,919 average.
• It emphasizes Denali luxury with strong capability and plenty of cargo space.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $51,033, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $49,919 average.
• It adds broader attention to off-road ability, infotainment, trailering tech, and safety.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the best fit if you want the strongest balance of upscale features, broad trim choice, and a softer price than last year. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2020 is the better value play; if you want a newer-feeling feature mix and can spend more, the 2022 is the natural step up.
