Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Generally — 4/5 is a solid user rating for this truck, and the 2023 Sierra 2500HD’s appeal comes from its broad trim range and upscale leanings. It gives you more luxury-oriented options than many heavy-duty rivals, including Denali and Denali Ultimate versions, while still offering work-ready body styles, bed lengths, and drivetrain choices. If you want a heavy-duty pickup that can feel more premium than purely utilitarian, this model year fits that use case well.

37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 Sierra 2500HD is described as a capable heavy-duty truck with a strong feature spread, but used examples can show issues such as check engine lights, infotainment sluggishness, rough or delayed shifts, electrical glitches, MultiPro tailgate problems, and faulty trailer brake controllers. That means your long-term ownership risk is less about the truck’s basic appeal and more about making sure the specific used example has been maintained and inspected carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should prioritize a history report first, then focus your inspection on signs of prior damage, electrical behavior, and how the truck shifts and operates under load. Pay close attention to infotainment performance, tailgate operation, and trailer-brake functionality, since those are the kinds of issues that can matter most in day-to-day ownership.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,851 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $54,093, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $54,117 sits slightly below last year's $59,080.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more favorably now but may also temper near-term resale upside. If you plan to sell later, the truck’s premium positioning and broad trim appeal should help, but the current downward trend means you should be realistic about future depreciation. Well-equipped examples with desirable features and clean history should hold buyer interest better than rougher trucks with visible wear.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• It balances capability with everyday versatility.

Consider the 2024 if:

• It adds a top-tier luxury trim with stronger towing muscle.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2023 if you want the best balance of price, trim variety, and premium features. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want the newest upscale hardware and can stretch your budget, the 2024 is the upgrade path.
