Used 2021 Ford Expedition for Sale near New Jersey

How much does the 2021 Ford Expedition cost?

Prices have softened 15.93% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,371 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and conditions.

Is the 2021 Ford Expedition a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.9/5, and our experts give it a 7/10. The expert test drive score is 7.00/10.

The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its spacious cabin, comfort, and strong performance, and they also highlight how easy it is to drive and how useful the 360 camera can be. That lines up with the Expedition’s role as a full-size SUV for people who tow, haul cargo, or carry passengers on a regular basis.

The trade-offs are clear: advanced safety features are not standard, and fuel economy is poor. Even so, it fits you well if your priorities center on passenger space, cargo room, and towing confidence rather than efficiency.

With 36.3% of listings priced as good or great deals, there is meaningful room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Ford Expedition reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels spacious, comfortable, and strong in everyday use, with many drivers also calling out its ease of driving and helpful features. That kind of feedback usually matters most when you want a large SUV you can count on for regular family duty, towing, or hauling.

The expert evaluation also supports that dependable, workhorse character by emphasizing how useful it is for people who regularly tow, haul cargo, or carry passengers. Ford’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a large, heavily used SUV can be expensive to keep in top shape if it has been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Expedition?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. A pre-purchase inspection matters too, especially on a large SUV where wear items, tires, brakes, and suspension components can be costly. Focus on condition, maintenance history, and whether the vehicle has the equipment you actually need.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup starts with the XL STX and moves through XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum. Base-trim equipment is more limited, while higher trims add more luxury and convenience, so you should compare features carefully before paying up.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive or 4WD. The engine is strong, and towing capacity ranges from 9,000 pounds to 9,300 pounds depending on specification.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. More advanced features such as adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and a semi-autonomous parking system are available starting with Limited trim.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 uses an 8-inch touchscreen and includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, FordPass Connect services, an available 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, navigation, and Amazon Alexa compatibility.
• Fuel efficiency: The Expedition 4WD should get 19 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 17.1 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2021 Ford Expedition trim should I buy?

The 2021 Ford Expedition is offered in 5 trim levels: XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• XL STX: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Expedition’s core space and capability without paying for luxury extras.
• XLT: This is the trim to focus on if you want the best balance of equipment and value, especially since it sits above the base model without jumping too far in price.
• Limited: This is the smart step-up if you want more convenience and access to available advanced driver-assistance features.
• King Ranch: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for a richer trim experience.
• Platinum: This is the most luxurious version, so it suits you if you want the highest-end Expedition and are comfortable paying for it.

Starting with Limited trim, the Expedition offers an available adaptive cruise control system with stop-and-go capability as well as a semi-autonomous parking assistance system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Expedition?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,371 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.93% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,041, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Ford Expedition's resale value?

The current average of $30,041 sits slightly below last year's $35,733.

That decline suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can make the Expedition easier to purchase now than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment because the broader market has already softened.

If you keep the vehicle well maintained and choose a desirable configuration, you can help protect value better than a neglected example. Strong demand for roomy, capable full-size SUVs should still support interest from shoppers who need towing and passenger space.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Ford Expedition safe?

The 2021 Expedition earns a five-star overall crash-test rating from NHTSA. With RWD, it earns three-star rollover-resistance ratings; with 4WD, it earns four-star rollover-resistance ratings.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights. Starting with Limited trim, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and a semi-autonomous parking assistance system are available, and a 360-degree surround-view camera is also available.

Should I buy a 2021 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It remains a practical, spacious, and capable full-size SUV for towing, hauling, and carrying people.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,588, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $30,041 average.
• It emphasizes space, cargo room, and towing capability.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $38,562, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $30,041 average.
• It adds more distinctive styling and impressive technology.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction, the 2021 is the strongest starting point. If your budget is tighter, the 2020 is the value play; if you want to spend more for a newer-feeling alternative, the 2022 is the upgrade path.
