Is the 2021 Dodge Durango a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Dodge Durango earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, comfortable seating, spacious interior, updated technology, and powerful engine options. Those themes line up with the Durango’s use case as a family-friendly SUV that still gives you towing capability and strong performance credentials.

The trade-offs are fuel efficiency and some missing features that shoppers expected in a modern SUV. The Durango is a fit if you want two-row or three-row versatility with a performance edge, and the market still shows 33.4% good or great deals.

Is the 2021 Dodge Durango reliable?

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV with comfortable seating, a smooth ride, and a cabin that many owners find spacious and easy to live with. The Durango’s long-running design means you should still pay close attention to maintenance records and overall condition before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

At 74.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with towing use. Focus on body condition, interior wear, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Durango becomes increasingly more premium and sophisticated as you move up the trim levels, with cloth upholstery on lower-level models and leather, suede, Nappa leather, and Laguna leather available higher up. The base setup also starts with an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get the larger 10.1-inch display.
• Powertrain: You can find a 3.6-liter V6, 5.7-liter HEMI V8, 392 HEMI V8, and supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8. The V6 makes 293 horsepower in some trims, while the top Hellcat engine produces 710 hp and delivers smooth acceleration.
• Safety package: The Durango comes standard with a rearview camera, airbags, and electronic stability control. Depending on trim or package, you can add adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning.
• Infotainment: The Durango offers an 8.4-inch touchscreen on SXT and GT, while higher trims get a 10.1-inch screen. Only the larger screen runs Uconnect 5, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, OTA updates, connected services, and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 makes 293 horsepower and the Durango’s pricing and positioning make efficiency a consideration, especially since owners also call out fuel economy concerns.

Which 2021 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2021 Dodge Durango is offered in 4 trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point if you want the Durango’s core formula at the lowest price. It gets the 8.4-inch touchscreen and the standard V6, so it covers the basics without the extra cost of the more premium trims.
• GT: This is the best-value trim if you want a stronger mix of equipment and everyday usability. It keeps the 8.4-inch touchscreen and adds a more upscale feel than the base setup while staying below the V8 models.
• Citadel: Choose this if you want a more premium Durango with more upscale materials and available V8 power. It’s the trim that leans hardest into comfort and refinement.
• R/T: This is the performance-leaning choice, with the 5.7-liter V8 and SRT Performance Pages standard. It suits you best if you want more power and a more athletic personality.

Safety equipment is still limited at the lower trims, so if advanced driver-assistance features matter to you, check the package content carefully.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,733 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.14% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,254, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $26,254 sits slightly below last year's $29,217.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. The Durango’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction help support demand, especially for well-equipped examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Dodge Durango safe?

The 2021 Dodge Durango earns a five-star side crash-test rating from NHTSA and a four-star rollover rating.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The Durango comes standard with a rearview camera, airbags, and electronic stability control. Depending on trim or package, you can add adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning.

A key caveat is that advanced safety tech is not standard across the lineup, so you should verify exactly which driver-assistance features are included on the used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2021 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 brings the new SRT Hellcat variant and Tow N Go Package, which sharpen its performance and towing appeal.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,672, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $26,254 average.
• It blends three-row practicality with Dodge’s muscle-car image.

The bottom line: If you want the newer infotainment, stronger performance story, and better current-market context, the 2021 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path.
