Used 2021 Dodge Challenger for Sale nearRichmond, VA

How much does the 2021 Dodge Challenger cost?

Prices have softened 1.85% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,271 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Dodge Challenger earns a 4.9/5 user rating, and our experts give it 7/10 overall, with an expert rating of 7.00/10. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its power, comfort, unique styling, impressive technology, and strong driving experience. The Challenger’s appeal is especially clear if you want a muscle car with a distinctive personality, multiple powertrain options, and a driving feel that leans hard into straight-line performance.

The trade-offs are just as clear: handling is outclassed by rivals, the back seat is cramped, and advanced safety features are not standard. If you want a car that prioritizes character and performance over all-around athleticism, the Challenger fits that brief well.

Only 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the best examples may still require quick action.

Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to dependable power, comfort, and a trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with long-term appeal tied to its strong personality and durable feel.

The expert review also describes the Challenger as offering reliable power backed by a full warranty, which supports its case as a car you can count on for the long haul. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the concept and more about how each individual car was treated, since condition and maintenance history matter a lot here.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Dodge Challenger?

At 66.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, structure, and any signs of prior repair. Pay close attention to condition, because the Challenger’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and whether it has been driven hard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SXT is described as decent but not especially impressive, while higher trims add more visual presence and richer cabin materials such as Nappa leather, contrast stitching, faux-suede headliners, carbon fiber trim, and thicker steering wheels with metal shift paddles.
• Powertrain: The base 3.6-liter V6 is quiet and efficient but not especially fun, while the R/T’s 5.7-liter V8 adds more character, and the R/T Scat Pack’s 6.4-liter V8 brings substantially more power.
• Safety package: No driver assists are standard, and adaptive cruise control is optional. Blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise are the only other driver assists available.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 8.4-inch screen should be standard, and the system also supports performance data displays and custom driving modes.
• Fuel efficiency: The performance review notes EPA figures as high as 30 mpg in some configurations, while the base V6 is described as quiet and efficient.

Which 2021 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?

The 2021 Dodge Challenger is offered in 3 trim levels: SXT, GT, and R/T.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Challenger’s style and basic usability at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the look and space first, but it is the least exciting choice.
• GT: Choose this if you want the same basic formula with a bit more equipment and the option of all-wheel drive. It is still more about everyday use than true muscle-car punch.
• R/T: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it is the first version the review says buyers should really begin with. It adds the V8 character, a six-speed manual transmission, an active exhaust, and an upgraded suspension.

The safety package note is simple: no driver assists are standard, and adaptive cruise control remains optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Dodge Challenger?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,271 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.85% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,170, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Dodge Challenger's resale value?

The current average of $31,363 sits slightly below last year's $31,953.

That softer pricing suggests the Challenger is holding value reasonably well, but not aggressively appreciating. For a future seller, that means your return will depend heavily on trim, condition, and how well the car has been cared for.

Because the model has strong enthusiast appeal and a loyal buyer base, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than ordinary used coupes. Higher-demand versions and cleaner histories should also be more resilient when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Dodge Challenger safe?

The Challenger earns a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but the government's tests mask the weaknesses of this old body structure. It earns four-star ratings for the driver and five-star ratings for the passenger in a frontal crash, five-star ratings for side impact, and four-star ratings for rollover testing.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

The Challenger’s safety equipment is limited by modern standards. Blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise are the only other driver assists available, and the optional forward emergency braking feature was rated only at the lowest basic level. The IIHS also found major shortcomings, including a marginal result for the driver in the small overlap front test and a poor body-structure rating.

Should I buy a 2021 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 Challenger is described as a serious, high-tech dragster with multiple powertrain options and strong performance value.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $27,871, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $31,363 average.
• It blends retro styling with a spacious interior and modern technology.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current-market value, enthusiast appeal, and performance variety, the 2021 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly path.
