Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

It stands out as a heavy-duty work truck that can still handle daily duty, with serious towing and hauling ability paired with practical livability. The truck also brings multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and plenty of cargo space, which broadens its usefulness if you want one truck that can work hard and stay approachable.

The trade-offs are that its design may be polarizing, and visibility over the front hood is poor.

With 31.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Silverado 3500HD is built around serious capability, and the expert review emphasizes that it can deliver on day-to-day needs while still being one of the most capable vehicles on the road. Its powertrains are described as making terrific power, and the diesel setup benefits from the 10-speed automatic by staying in the ideal gear for optimal performance.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds some ownership reassurance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that heavy-duty trucks can be expensive to keep in top shape if they’ve been worked hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on trucks that may have been used for towing or hauling. Focus on overall condition, signs of heavy-duty use, and whether the truck’s equipment matches what you expect from the trim and options.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The W/T, LT, LTZ, and High Country trims create a clear ladder of equipment, and the base W/T is the most stripped-down version with vinyl seat trim, a 7-inch touchscreen, and basic trailering-focused hardware. If you want more comfort and convenience, the LT adds cloth seating, a larger 8-inch touchscreen, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, while LTZ and High Country bring more upscale features.
• Powertrain: You get a standard 6.6-liter V8 gas engine with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, or an optional Duramax turbodiesel 6.6-liter V8 with 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. Both can be paired with rear-wheel drive or available four-wheel drive with low range, and the diesel’s 10-speed automatic helps keep performance on point.
• Safety package: The Silverado comes standard with a backup camera and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. Forward collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree parking camera system are available, but not standard.
• Infotainment: The base truck uses a 7-inch touchscreen, upgraded trims get an 8-inch screen, and the High Country adds navigation. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on the base setup, and the system is designed to be easy to use with hard buttons and dials.
• Fuel efficiency: Drivers can expect fuel economy between 12 and 15 mpg.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is offered in 4 trim levels: W/T, LT, LTZ, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• W/T: This is the most basic choice, but it still gives you the essentials you need for work, including two USB ports, vinyl seat trim, two-tier trailering mirrors, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost entry point and care more about capability than comfort.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds cloth seating, body-color door handles, Chevy’s EZ lift-and-lower tailgate, a 4.2-inch driver information display, an integrated trailer brake controller, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and an 8-inch touchscreen. It gives you a much more usable daily experience without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• LTZ: This trim is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale truck, with chrome exterior accents, leather upholstery, heated front seats, remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, 120-volt wall-style power outlets, and extending side mirrors with integrated turn signals. It also adds an advanced trailering system.
• High Country: This is the luxury-focused top trim, with body-color bumpers, heated and ventilated front seats, chrome side steps, a Bose premium sound system, spray-in bed-liner, and navigation. It is the right pick if you want the most comfort and convenience the Silverado 3500HD offers.

The safety equipment is mostly standard only at the basic level, while many driver-assistance features remain optional across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,135 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.68% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $46,059, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD's resale value?

The current average of $46,059 sits slightly below last year's $49,358.

That decline suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more truck for the money today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the truck has been maintained.

Heavy-duty trucks can hold demand well when they’re clean and properly equipped, but the market still rewards trucks that present as well-kept and lightly used. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD safe?

The Silverado comes standard with a backup camera and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Silverado also offers forward collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree parking camera system, though many of those features cost extra. That matters because the truck’s size makes parking and maneuvering more challenging, and the review specifically notes that the parking camera system and sensors are especially helpful.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out as a heavy-duty work truck that can still handle daily duty, with serious towing and hauling ability paired with practical livability.

The bottom line: The 2021 is a strong choice if you want a heavy-duty truck with broad capability, useful tech, and a market that has become a bit more buyer-friendly. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping for the cleanest truck with the right equipment rather than stretching for a higher trim, since the 2021 already offers a wide spread of configurations and features.
