How much does the 2021 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 9.91% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,339 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 BMW X3 earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, smooth ride, and strong performance, and they especially like the comfortable seats. The X3 also gets credit for its upscale feel and useful technology, which fits a compact luxury SUV that aims to be practical without feeling plain.

The main trade-offs are that it sits on the expensive end of the segment and some buyers may wish for more interior storage. Some owners also note that certain features are less widely available than on some rivals.

If you want an upscale, versatile crossover with broad appeal and strong everyday usability, the X3 fits that brief well. Good and great deals account for 38.6% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with repeated praise for comfort, smoothness, and strong performance that suggests the X3 is easy to live with over time. The review summary also highlights the model’s trouble-free appeal through its strong overall satisfaction and the way owners value its long-term usability.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the X3 as a practical, well-rounded luxury SUV with solid driving dynamics and a broad technology set. Its standard equipment and usable packaging also support the sense that it is built to be counted on day to day.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright weakness and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and equipped the way you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a close inspection of the cabin, electronics, and any optional equipment, since the X3’s appeal depends heavily on how well its features work in real life. Focus on overall condition and whether the vehicle has the comfort and tech features you expect for the price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i come standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, synthetic leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, a 10.2-inch infotainment system, navigation, and 10-way power-adjustable front seats. The M40i adds 19-inch alloy wheels, 14-way power-adjustable front seats, unique exterior styling, and an M Sport suspension, while many of the optional comfort features become standard. The xDrive30i is the better-value choice if you want all-wheel drive.
• Powertrain: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 248 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The xDrive30e plug-in hybrid makes 288 hp and offers a 17-mile electric-only range. The M40i steps up to a 382-hp twin-turbo inline-six for much stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, headlights that bend with the road, and a head-up display are optional.
• Infotainment: You get a standard 10.2-inch touchscreen with iDrive, plus Apple CarPlay. Android Auto is optional. Wireless device charging, a fully digital instrument panel, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon premium stereo are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The xDrive30e plug-in hybrid returns 30 MPGe in electric mode and 24 mpg in hybrid mode. The sDrive30i returns 25 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 27 mpg combined, the xDrive30i returns 23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined, and the M40i returns 21 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2021 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW X3 is offered in 4 trim levels: sDrive30i, xDrive30i, M40i, and xDrive30e plug-in hybrid.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive30i: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core X3 experience with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder, rear-wheel drive, and a strong list of standard tech and comfort features. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and do not need AWD.
• xDrive30i: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same basic equipment mix and price structure close to the base model. If you want the most balanced everyday X3, start here.
• xDrive30e plug-in hybrid: Choose this if you want the most efficient version and like the idea of short electric-only driving. It also brings a higher-output powertrain and many of the same available comfort and tech features.
• M40i: This is the performance choice, with a much stronger inline-six, more responsive cornering, and more standard equipment. It suits you best if driving enjoyment matters more than keeping the purchase price down.

The standard safety package is strong across the lineup, while adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, headlights that bend with the road, and a head-up display remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,339 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.91% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,863, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $23,863 sits slightly below last year's $26,488.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give you better buying leverage now than a year ago. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum alone.

Because the X3 still has strong demand as a luxury compact SUV, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. If you buy carefully and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW X3 safe?

The X3 comes standard with advanced driver-assistance features such as automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front-and-rear parking sensors.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

That standard safety list is a real strength, especially because it includes both active collision-avoidance tech and useful parking aids. Optional equipment adds adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, headlights that bend with the road, and a head-up display, so higher-spec examples can be better equipped for long-distance driving.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.91% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds more standard safety features and newly available in-car tech.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,079, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $23,863 average.
• It brings a substantial refresh with new engines, more technology, and an expanded safety suite.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the stronger value proposition and a wide selection of listings to compare. If you are willing to pay more for the refreshed package and newer features, the 2022 is the upgrade path to consider. For most price-sensitive buyers, the 2021 offers the more compelling balance of equipment, satisfaction, and market pricing.
