Used 2021 BMW 4 Series for Sale nearMalibu, CA

How much does the 2021 BMW 4 Series cost?

Prices have softened 5.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 658 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 BMW 4 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2021 BMW 4 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

The 4 Series is offered as a coupe and convertible, and BMW moved it in a more luxurious, technology-focused direction. That makes it a better fit if you want a stylish premium two-door with strong tech and handling rather than maximum practicality.

The trade-offs are clear: the design may be polarizing, a manual transmission is not available, and the back seat is cramped. Even so, the car’s handling and technology help it stand out in its segment.

Only 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than flooded with bargains.

Is the 2021 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

BMW describes the 4 Series as refined and user friendly, and the expert review also points to a well-executed cabin and strong technology. The 430i and M440i powertrains give you a clear spread of performance choices, and the eight-speed automatic is the only transmission offered.

The review also notes that the M440i adds a 48-volt starter/generator for better fuel efficiency. BMW’s standard warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles, with four years of free roadside assistance.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that luxury-car upkeep can be costly if the car was optioned heavily or not maintained carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW 4 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still prioritize a history report and a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or multiple options packages. Focus on the condition of the infotainment system, suspension components, tires, and interior wear, since this model can be expensive to restore if neglected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard 430i gives you the core 4 Series experience, while the M440i adds more performance-oriented hardware and stronger straight-line pace. The base car already includes standard LED headlights and taillights, front sport seats with 10-way power adjustment and driver’s memory, paddle shifters, and a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, but the cabin materials in the test car were described as good rather than truly luxury-class.
• Powertrain: The 430i uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque, while the M440i uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 382 hp and 369 lb-ft. The M440i also adds a 48-volt starter/generator for better fuel efficiency, and the eight-speed automatic is the only transmission.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and speed-limit information. Adaptive cruise control requires the Driving Assistance Professional Package, which also adds steering assist and stop-and-go capability.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses an 8.8-inch touchscreen with an instrument cluster that includes analog gauges and a 5.1-inch display screen. The optional Live Cockpit Professional setup upgrades to a 10.25-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The rear-wheel-drive 430i is rated at 29 mpg combined, while the xDrive version is rated at 27 mpg combined. The xDrive test car averaged 26.6 mpg over a week of driving.

Which 2021 BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW 4 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 430i and M440i.

Here's the short version:

• 430i: This is the better-value choice if you want the core 4 Series formula without paying for the extra performance hardware of the M440i. It still gives you the standard tech and comfort features, plus the car’s strong handling and upscale feel, making it the trim most shoppers should start with.
• M440i: Choose this if you want the stronger six-cylinder engine and the more performance-focused setup that comes with it. It is the quicker, more powerful option, and it suits you best if straight-line pace matters more than keeping the purchase price down.

Adaptive cruise control is not standard; you need the Driving Assistance Professional Package to get it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW 4 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with some room to negotiate if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 658 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.83% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,023, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $32,620 sits slightly below last year's $34,638.

That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to drift down. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can reduce the hit from depreciation later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW 4 Series safe?

The 2021 BMW 4 Series does not have published crash-test ratings yet.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and speed-limit information. If you want adaptive cruise control, you need the Driving Assistance Professional Package, which also adds steering assist and stop-and-go functionality.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 brings a redesigned, more luxurious, technology-focused direction with strong handling and a coupe/convertible lineup.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $35,248, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $32,620 average.
• It adds a five-door Gran Coupe body style with easier rear-seat access and more cargo utility.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, inventory, and the redesigned 4 Series experience, the 2021 is the smarter buy. If you need easier rear-seat access and more everyday utility, it makes sense to stretch to the 2022, but price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on the 2021.
