Used 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan for Sale nearColumbus, OH

How much does the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

Prices have softened 12.15% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,546 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 4.89/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its roomy interior, value, and quality, and many also like its smooth handling and overall practicality. The Tiguan’s three-row layout and spacious feel make it especially appealing if you want a compact crossover that can carry more people than most rivals.

The trade-offs are clear: handling is called out as poor, and some shoppers wish it had a power liftgate. Even so, the Tiguan’s use-case is straightforward — it fits you best if you prioritize space, everyday usability, and a broad feature set over driving sharpness.

With 36.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 4.89/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with repeated praise for its value, quality, and roomy cabin. That kind of owner sentiment usually matters most when you’re shopping used, because it suggests the Tiguan has been meeting expectations over time rather than creating frustration.

The expert review also emphasizes the Tiguan’s everyday usability and solid build of its core strengths, which supports the impression of a vehicle you can count on for regular family duty. Volkswagen’s complimentary Car-Net features for five years add convenience, including remote locking and unlocking, status checks, and vehicle location.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the specific example has been maintained well and equipped the way you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan?

At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. Because the Tiguan’s appeal depends heavily on space, technology, and safety equipment, you’ll want to confirm that the features you care about are actually present on the specific trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S trim is the most stripped-down version, while the SE adds leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, automatic climate control, and the more desirable 8-inch touchscreen. The SE is the value leader, while the SEL and SEL Premium R-Line bring more luxury and safety equipment.
• Powertrain: Every Tiguan uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: All models include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assistance and LED headlights with automatic high beams are reserved for the top SEL trim.
• Infotainment: The base S trim uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while SE and higher trims get an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a WiFi hotspot are standard, and top SEL trims can add VW’s Digital Cockpit.
• Fuel efficiency: A front-drive Tiguan earns 25 miles per gallon combined, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at 23 mpg combined. Highway numbers do not crack 30 mpg for either version.

Which 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line Black, SEL, SEL Premium R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it gives up too much equipment for many shoppers. You get the basics, yet the smaller 6.5-inch screen and simpler cabin make it the least compelling choice unless price is your only priority.
• SE: This is the best-value trim. It adds leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, automatic climate control, and the 8-inch touchscreen, which makes the Tiguan feel much more complete without a huge price jump.
• SE R-Line Black: Choose this if you want the sportier appearance package and don’t mind paying mostly for style. It adds cosmetic upgrades and a panoramic sunroof option, but it is not the value pick.
• SEL: This is the trim to target if you want the strongest mix of comfort and safety equipment. It adds adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist and more luxury content, but it costs a meaningful step up from the SE.
• SEL Premium R-Line: This is the top-end choice for shoppers who want the most equipment and all-wheel drive. It sits at the high end of the range, so it makes sense mainly if you want a loaded Tiguan rather than the best bargain.

The safety package is strongest on the SEL trim and above, while lower trims leave adaptive cruise and lane-keeping assistance off the standard equipment list.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you have room to shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,546 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.15% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,654, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $15,654 sits slightly below last year's $17,819.

That decline suggests the Tiguan has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help you enter the market at a lower cost. For a future seller, though, it also means you should expect resale values to reflect the model’s softer pricing trend rather than a strong appreciation story.

The good news is that the Tiguan still has a clear audience: shoppers who want space, a third row, and easy-to-use technology. That helps support demand, especially for well-equipped examples in strong condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.89/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS for top-of-the-line SEL Premium models with LED headlights.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen made the standard safety package stronger for 2020 by adding forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert to all models. Adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assistance and LED headlights with automatic high beams are reserved for the top SEL trim, so lower trims miss some of the most desirable driver-assistance features.

One important caveat is that most Tiguans use halogen headlights, which IIHS rates poor. That means the safety story depends heavily on trim and headlight equipment, so you should verify exactly what’s on the vehicle you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.89/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its roomy three-row packaging and broad trim range.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,179, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $15,654 average.
• It adds a refreshed infotainment update and broader family-friendly appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the lower entry price and the same core space-and-utility formula, the 2020 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to spend more for the next model year’s updates, the 2021 is the better path; price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on the 2020 and shop for a clean, well-equipped example.
