CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Toyota Tundra
overall

Summary
With 1,555 currently listed for sale and an average price of $37,490.00, 30.4% of 2020 Toyota Tundras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Toyota Tundra 4.79 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 5.33 / 10.
64.8% of 2020 Tundra models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Toyota Tundra stands out most for its reputation for reliability. The test-drive data describes it as practically a guarantee that you will never need to buy another truck again, and it says a 2020 Toyota Tundra should prove utterly bulletproof in terms of reliability. That same source also makes clear that this durability comes with tradeoffs, since the truck is described as uncompetitive in numerous ways.
For buyers, the Tundra’s appeal also includes a spacious cabin and an impressive stereo. Those strengths help explain why some drivers value it as a sturdy, dependable truck for long-term ownership. At the same time, the drawbacks are hard to ignore: poor fuel economy, a noisy driving experience, and poor safety ratings all work against it. The user review summary echoes the same basic split, praising reliability, power, and interior space while noting weak gas mileage and an outdated interior design compared with competitors.

I purchased this truck new and overall the value is good but I have had some challenges. My a/c has a gremlin in it sometimes it works sometimes works but not at the level it was designed for. This truck rides like a truck so if you are looking for a nice this isn't the truck for you. I have the crew cab and the space inside is fantastic. I also like having the V8 engine. Overall it is a good buy but the interior is definitely dated. I need a key to start where others only need press a button. :-)

2020 Toyota Tundra Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2020 Toyota Tundra prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2020 Toyota Tundra cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $37,498 |
| Year-Round Low | $35,145.22 |
| Year-Round High | $38,168.13 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $38,166 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.75% |
Prices have softened 1.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,562 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $35,145.22, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Toyota Tundra a good car?
Yes — the 4.79/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 5.33/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.
Drivers consistently praise its reliability, power, and spacious interior, and many describe it as sturdy and dependable for long-term ownership. The trade-offs are clear, though: weak gas mileage and an outdated interior design come up repeatedly, and the expert review also flags a noisy driving experience and poor safety ratings.
For you, that means the Tundra makes the most sense if you value durability, cabin space, and a straightforward truck character more than modern refinement. With 30.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market activity to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Toyota Tundra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.79/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The user review summary repeatedly describes it as reliable, dependable, and a truck you can count on for long-term ownership, while the expert review calls it a durable workhorse and says it should prove utterly bulletproof in terms of reliability.
Toyota also includes free scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 25,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical trustworthiness and more about living with the truck’s age-related compromises.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Tundra?
At 65.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and pay close attention to any prior collision repairs, especially on trucks that may have been used hard. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on body condition, suspension wear, and signs of heavy use. Because this model’s strengths are durability and space, you’ll want to make sure the specific truck you’re considering still feels clean, tight, and well cared for.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The trim ladder runs from SR to 1794 Edition, and the higher trims add more comfort and luxury. Base versions are simpler, with fewer upscale touches than the upper trims.
- Powertrain: Every 2020 Tundra uses a 5.7-liter V8 with a 6-speed automatic. It makes 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, and the truck is described as a refined and durable workhorse.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense comes standard, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available. Every Tundra also includes a free year of Safety Connect services with automatic collision notification and SOS emergency calling.
- Infotainment: Lower trims get a 7-inch display, while pricier versions upgrade to an 8-inch screen. Wireless phone integration is not mentioned, but Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, USB ports, and connected services are included.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA says 4WD models return 13 mpg city, 17 mpg highway, and 14 mpg combined. The expert review also notes that gas mileage is unimpressive.
Which 2020 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?
The 2020 Toyota Tundra is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, TRD Pro, Platinum, and 1794 Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: SR gives you the core Tundra formula, but it lacks the richer cabin feel and upgraded equipment found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: SR5 is the best value pick if you want a step up from the base truck without chasing luxury pricing.
- Premium/top trim: Platinum and 1794 Edition are the best choices if you want the plushest cabin and the most upscale presentation.
- Off-road trim: TRD Pro is the one to choose if you want the most specialized off-road hardware, but its focus makes it less ideal for typical daily driving.
Toyota Safety Sense comes standard, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Tundra?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,562 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.75% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $35,145.22, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Toyota Tundra's resale value?
The current average of $37,498 sits slightly below last year's $38,166.
That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, the bigger picture still looks supportive because the Tundra’s reputation for durability and owner satisfaction tends to keep demand steady. Even if prices fluctuate, trucks with this kind of loyalty usually hold buyer interest better than less trusted alternatives.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.79/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.75% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.79/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 keeps the Tundra’s durable, old-school truck character while adding modern infotainment and standard safety tech.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $35,019, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $37,498 average.
- It sticks with a straightforward, proven pickup formula and offers multiple powertrain choices.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $39,353, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $37,498 average.
- It blends the Tundra’s familiar fundamentals with updated infotainment and safety tech.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of price, satisfaction, and proven durability, the 2020 is the sensible target. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 is worth considering if you want a slightly newer truck and are willing to pay more.
