CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Toyota Sequoia

Summary
With 192 currently listed for sale and an average price of $45,499.00, 37.0% of 2020 Toyota Sequoias for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Toyota Sequoia 4.75 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Toyota Sequoia stands out as a big, truck-based SUV that leans hard into durability, towing ability, and family-hauling practicality. It rides on the full-size Tundra platform, and Toyota’s long-running formula gives it three rows of seating and room for up to eight passengers depending on the second-row layout. That makes it appealing to buyers who want a traditional body-on-frame SUV with a reputation for toughness rather than a softer, carlike crossover.
For 2020, the Sequoia’s most distinctive trim was the TRD Pro, which was aimed at more serious off-road use. It came with Fox shocks, forged wheels with all-terrain tires, skid plates, and Rigid fog lights. The broader Sequoia lineup also benefited from Toyota Safety Sense, which included adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane keeping assistance. Inside, all models had Toyota Audio Multimedia with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the base SR5 used an eight-inch touch screen and the other trims used a larger 14-inch display.
The Sequoia’s strengths are easy to understand: it has a strong reputation for reliability, it can tow up to 9,520 pounds in the right configuration, and it offers the kind of space and ruggedness that still matters to many SUV shoppers. Its drawbacks are just as clear. Fuel economy has never been a strong point, the ride can feel truck-like, and the hybrid powertrain’s battery placement reduces cargo space under the third row. For buyers who value proven hardware and a full-size SUV feel, though, the 2020 Toyota Sequoia remains a distinctive choice.

The TRD Pro package has a great ride all the features needed to keep the family happy and riding in comfort. Sad to see the nearly indestructible 5.7 L V-8 going away on the 2023 model.

This SUV us a tremendous value when compared to the Toyota Land Cruiser. It has the exactly same engine, same power and although does not have as many optional equipment, it is $20k less so definitely hard to pass.

Prices are up 1.57% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 204 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $43,934.53, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Toyota Sequoia a good car?
Yes — 4.75/5 is a strong user rating for this model year.
That makes it appealing to you if you want a traditional body-on-frame SUV with a reputation for toughness rather than a softer, carlike crossover.
For 2020, the Sequoia’s most distinctive trim was the TRD Pro, which was aimed at more serious off-road use. The broader lineup also benefited from Toyota Safety Sense, and all models had Toyota Audio Multimedia with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Toyota Sequoia reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2020 Toyota Sequoia’s strengths are easy to understand: it has a strong reputation for reliability, it can tow up to 9,520 pounds in the right configuration, and it offers the kind of space and ruggedness that still matters to many SUV shoppers. Its truck-based design also supports the durability-focused ownership experience many used buyers want.
For you, the main long-term risk is that a used example may have been worked hard, so condition and maintenance history matter more than mileage alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Sequoia?
At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from ones with collision records. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on suspension, brakes, and any signs of heavy use or poor repairs.
Because this is a large, truck-based SUV, you should focus on overall condition and maintenance consistency rather than assuming every example has been treated gently.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Sequoia?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep discounts everywhere.
- Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 204 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.57% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 62.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $43,934.53, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Toyota Sequoia's resale value?
The current average of $45,569 sits slightly above last year's $44,867.
That upward move suggests the market still values this model year’s combination of space, towing ability, and rugged utility. If you sell later, a Sequoia that has been well maintained and presents cleanly should remain easier to market than one with visible wear or a questionable history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Sequoia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.57% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $48,378, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $45,569 average.
- It adds a more dated-but-updated feel with modern tech in the right places.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2020 if you want the better value and are comfortable shopping carefully for condition and history. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer model year, the 2021 is the secondary path, but price-sensitive buyers will likely find the 2020 easier to justify.
