Used 2020 Toyota Avalon for Sale nearLexington, KY

How much does the 2020 Toyota Avalon cost?

Prices are up 2.51% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 279 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Avalon earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The Avalon stands out as Toyota’s full-size sedan flagship, and it brings a sense of occasion that is increasingly rare in the segment. It also has a spacious cabin and a near-luxury look and feel, which makes it appealing if you want a large sedan that feels more special than basic transportation.

The main trade-off is value: the test-drive data describes it as poor value for money, so you may be paying more for size, safety, and flagship character than for bargain pricing. That makes it a better fit if you prioritize comfort and presence over maximum affordability.

Only 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you may need to shop carefully to find the right one.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Avalon’s 2020 redesign on Toyota’s TNGA platform helped revitalize the car, and the expert data describes it as built and finished at a commendable level with good-quality materials throughout the cabin. Its naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and eight-speed automatic are straightforward mechanical pieces, which can be a plus if you want a conventional powertrain.

Toyota also includes a broad set of standard safety and convenience features, and the model’s standard equipment list suggests a well-developed ownership experience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity and more about paying a premium for a car whose value proposition is not especially strong.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Avalon?

At 66.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or paint mismatch. Focus on overall condition, because the Avalon’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and whether its premium feel is still intact.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XLE uses 17-inch wheels, while Limited gets 18-inch wheels and XSE, Touring, and TRD use 19-inch wheels; the cabin also centers on a 9-inch touchscreen, and the higher trims add more upscale touches.
• Powertrain: The Avalon uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control; blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking is limited to Limited and Touring.
• Infotainment: A 9-inch touchscreen is standard, Apple CarPlay is standard, Android Auto is not available, and Touring and Limited can get a premium audio setup with JBL, Dynamic Navigation, and 14 speakers.
• Fuel efficiency: The Avalon XLE is rated at 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined, while XSE, TRD, Limited, and Touring are rated at 22/31/25 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Avalon trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Avalon is offered in 5 trim levels: XLE, XSE, TRD, Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• XLE: This is the value-oriented choice if you want the Avalon’s core strengths — the V6, standard safety tech, Apple CarPlay, and the 9-inch touchscreen — without paying for extras you may not need.
• XSE: This trim adds a more athletic look and 19-inch wheels, making it a good pick if you want the Avalon to feel a little sportier without jumping to the specialty trims.
• TRD: This is the one to choose if you want the most performance-focused setup, including TRD track-tuned coil springs and larger brakes.
• Limited: This is the best choice if you want the most upscale everyday experience, with the premium audio system, navigation, JBL sound, and the available driver-assistance upgrade.
• Touring: This trim suits you if you want a more premium-feeling Avalon with the adaptive suspension and the standard head-up display.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but the Limited and Touring trims are the ones that can add the extra sonar-based parking and rear-cross-traffic braking system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Avalon?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, but the best listings may not last long.

• Deal availability: 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 279 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.51% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 66.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,932, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Avalon's resale value?

The current average of $28,011 sits slightly above last year's $27,325.

That upward move suggests the Avalon has held demand reasonably well, even as it remains a niche choice in a market dominated by SUVs. If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a decent chance of preserving value better than you would with a less distinctive sedan.

The price range also matters for resale: buyers who shop later will likely compare your Avalon against other large sedans and even some premium alternatives, so condition and trim will influence how quickly it moves. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon safe?

The 2020 Toyota Avalon earns Good ratings from IIHS in all crash tests and safety categories except headlights on XLE and XSE trim levels, which are rated Poor. It earns five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, which gives you a strong safety package even before you move up the trim ladder.

The main caveat is the headlight result on XLE and XSE, so if nighttime visibility matters a lot to you, that is worth factoring into your trim choice. Limited and Touring also offer Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.51% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model marks the Avalon’s 25th birthday and benefits from the TNGA-based fifth-generation refresh.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $24,123, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $28,011 average.
• It brings new tech, more power, and a more modern feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $27,921, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $28,011 average.
• It offers a roomy, comfortable cabin with a more upscale feel.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of safety, comfort, and flagship character, the 2020 is the one to target. If price matters most, the 2019 is the better value play, while the 2021 is worth considering if you want a similar experience and find a cleaner or better-equipped example.
