Used 2020 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearColumbus, OH

How much does the 2020 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 2.15% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,305 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.85/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its ruggedness, reliability, and value retention, and many also highlight its comfort, safety features, and off-road capability. The trade-offs are clear too: it is not especially refined, and the interior design and feature set can feel behind the curve. That makes it a strong fit if you want a durable SUV that prioritizes capability over polish. With 35.0% of listings priced as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability, durability, and trouble-free ownership as recurring strengths, with buyers especially valuing its long-term dependability and value retention. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the engine’s longevity and the 4Runner’s tough, body-on-frame construction, both of which support its reputation for being built to last. Toyota’s maintenance coverage language also adds a small ownership perk for shoppers comparing running costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical fragility and more about accepting age-related compromises in refinement, efficiency, and cabin quality.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota 4Runner?

At 68.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, alignment, and underbody condition. Because this SUV is often bought for rugged use, it is smart to focus on signs of hard driving, trail damage, and uneven wear. If a listing has been used the way this model is meant to be used, condition matters more than mileage alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, Limited, Nightshade Special Edition, and Venture Special Edition. Lower trims come with cloth, while the SR5 Premium and TRD Off-Road Premium add SofTex, and the Limited leans into comfort with leather upholstery and a more upscale presentation.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 4.0-liter V6 with a 5-speed automatic, making 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. The setup is built for durability and off-road use more than smoothness or efficiency, and it can tow up to 5,000 pounds.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. All trims also get eight standard airbags, but the system is more reactive than truly active, and the lane-departure setup is not as advanced as a lane-keeping assist system.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also supports Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, a single USB media port in SR5 and TRD Off-Road trims, and available features such as JBL audio and navigation on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimates 16 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined. The expert evaluation also notes that fuel economy does not improve meaningfully with 2WD.

Which 2020 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 8 trim levels: SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, Limited, Nightshade Special Edition, and Venture Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 4Runner formula without the extra comfort or appearance upgrades. It makes sense if you want the rugged basics and plan to keep the budget in check.
• SR5 Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale cabin feel with SofTex while staying close to the core 4Runner mission. If you want a nicer daily experience without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to target.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the better pick if you want the 4Runner’s trail-focused hardware and off-road character. It is the trim to choose when capability matters more than comfort extras.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: This is the right move if you want the off-road hardware plus a more comfortable interior. It suits buyers who want trail ability but do not want to give up too much cabin polish.
• TRD Pro: This is the most specialized off-road choice in the lineup and is aimed at buyers who want the most capability-focused version. It is the trim for you if off-road use is the priority and price is less of a concern.
• Limited: This is the comfort-first trim, with leather upholstery and a more upscale look. It is the best fit if you want the 4Runner’s rugged image but plan to spend more time on pavement.
• Nightshade Special Edition: This trim leans into a stealthier, blacked-out appearance. Choose it if style matters and you want a more distinctive look.
• Venture Special Edition: This trim adds a blacked-out aesthetic plus 17-inch TRD wheels and a standard Yakima Megawarrior roof rack. It is a good fit if you want a more adventure-ready look and equipment set.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, so even the lower trims get the core driver-assistance suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,305 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.15% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $33,540, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $34,849 sits slightly below last year's $35,615.

That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, the current trend is a reminder that resale value is still supported by the 4Runner’s reputation, but pricing can soften when supply is healthy and shoppers have choices. If you buy well today, you are better positioned to preserve value later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2020 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA and three-star ratings in rollover testing, while IIHS gave it Good scores in all crash tests except the small overlap front: driver-side test, where it scored Marginal.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. The 4Runner also comes with eight standard airbags. The main caveat is the Marginal IIHS result in the small overlap front: driver-side test, plus the SUV’s high center of gravity and less advanced lane support compared with more modern systems.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Toyota Safety Sense P.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $31,780, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $34,849 average.
• It is a rugged, old-school SUV with off-road ability first.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $36,872, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $34,849 average.
• It emphasizes reliability, resale value, and go-anywhere utility.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, modern tech, and the classic 4Runner formula, the 2020 is the sweet spot. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you are willing to pay more for a newer example with similar rugged appeal.
