Used 2020 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearCincinnati, OH

How much does the 2020 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 1.28% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,384 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for used shoppers.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its ruggedness, reliability, and value retention, and many also highlight its comfort, safety features, and off-road capability. The trade-offs are familiar: it is not especially refined, and some shoppers wish for more modern features and a better interior design.

Given its purpose-built, capability-first character, it makes the most sense if you want a tough SUV that can handle demanding conditions rather than a soft-riding daily driver. Even so, 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to ruggedness, reliability, and value retention, with language that emphasizes durability and a vehicle you can count on. The expert review also describes the engine’s longevity as a testament to its reliability, reinforcing the idea that this SUV is built for long-term use.

Toyota’s safety suite and standard equipment add to the sense that the 4Runner is engineered for dependable ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical toughness and more about accepting its age, efficiency, and refinement compromises over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota 4Runner?

At 68.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has been used for off-road driving or in harsh weather. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the cabin, and evidence that the vehicle has been maintained consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, Limited, Nightshade Special Edition, and Venture Special Edition. Lower trims come with cloth upholstery, while the SR5 Premium and TRD Off-Road Premium add SofTex material; the Limited leans more toward comfort with leather upholstery. The Venture adds 17-inch TRD wheels and a standard Yakima Megawarrior roof rack.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 4.0-liter V6 with a 5-speed automatic transmission. It makes 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, and the setup is tuned more for durability and off-road use than efficiency.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. Eight airbags are standard, and the system is part of what makes the 2020 model safer than earlier versions.
• Infotainment: The 4Runner gets an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also offers Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, a single USB media port in SR5 and TRD Off-Road trims, and available navigation, JBL audio, SiriusXM, Safety Connect, and WiFi Connect.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 returns 16 mpg city and 19 mpg highway, with 17 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 8 trim levels: SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, Limited, Nightshade Special Edition, and Venture Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 4Runner experience without the extra comfort or appearance upgrades. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the model and do not need premium trim features.
• SR5 Premium: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale feel without moving too far up the price ladder. It is a smart pick if you want more comfort and still want to keep the 4Runner’s rugged basics.
• TRD Off-Road: Choose this if you want the more trail-focused setup and the off-road hardware that fits the 4Runner’s mission. It is the right fit if capability matters more to you than luxury touches.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: This trim blends the off-road focus with more comfort-oriented equipment, making it a strong middle ground. It suits you if you want trail ability but do not want a stripped-down cabin.
• TRD Pro: This is the most specialized choice for buyers who want the most aggressive off-road character in the lineup. It is the trim to consider if you want the 4Runner at its most capability-focused.
• Limited: This is the comfort-first trim, with leather upholstery and a more upscale presentation. It is the right choice if you want the 4Runner’s rugged image but plan to spend more time on pavement.
• Nightshade Special Edition: This trim leans into a stealthier look with blacked-out styling pieces. It is best if appearance matters to you and you want a more distinctive visual treatment.
• Venture Special Edition: This trim adds off-road-oriented touches like 17-inch TRD wheels and a standard Yakima Megawarrior roof rack. It is a good fit if you want a more adventure-ready look and equipment set.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, so even the lower trims get the core driver-assistance package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,384 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.28% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $33,540, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $34,721 sits slightly below last year's $35,172.

That modest decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy with less pressure today. For a future seller, the current pricing pattern implies that value is holding reasonably well rather than dropping sharply.

The 4Runner’s reputation for durability and strong owner satisfaction should continue to support demand. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in good condition, that can help preserve resale appeal later.

Is the 2020 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2020 Toyota 4Runner earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS, though IIHS gave it a Marginal result in the small overlap front: driver-side test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. Eight airbags are standard, which adds another layer of protection.

The main caveat is that the 4Runner’s safety performance is not flawless, and the reactive lane-departure alert system is less reassuring than a more active lane-keeping setup would be. That means you should value the standard safety tech, but still pay close attention to the crash-test details when comparing used examples.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.28% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds updated infotainment and standard Toyota Safety Sense P for this model year.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $31,524, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $34,721 average.
• It is a rugged, off-road-first SUV with proven durability.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $36,743, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $34,721 average.
• It emphasizes reliability, resale value, and go-anywhere capability.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, updated tech, and strong owner satisfaction, the 2020 is the primary path to consider. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you are willing to pay more for the next model year.
