Used 2020 Nissan Frontier for Sale near Connecticut

How much does the 2020 Nissan Frontier cost?

Prices have softened 6.98% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 865 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Nissan Frontier a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Nissan Frontier earns a 4.4/5 user rating and a 5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Owners consistently praise its comfortable ride, handling, and power, and they also appreciate the straightforward, no-frills design. In use, that lines up with the Frontier’s simple pickup character and its appeal to buyers who want an honest, rugged truck rather than a flashy one. The main trade-offs are its outdated tech options and small cargo bed, along with an overall setup that feels narrow in appeal. Good and great deals account for 32.5% of listings, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Nissan Frontier reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck people can count on for everyday use, with praise for its comfortable ride, handling, and power. That same feedback also emphasizes its straightforward design, which often appeals to buyers looking for something dependable and easy to live with over time. The expert drive notes also describe the Frontier as solidly built, with remarkable solidity and no squeaks or rattles on rough roads. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that age-related wear and outdated systems can make it less reassuring than newer rivals.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Nissan Frontier?

At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a truck with higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on overall condition, accident repairs, and how well the truck’s older cabin and hardware have held up. Because the Frontier’s safety equipment is limited, it’s smart to be extra careful about the condition of the specific truck you’re buying.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Frontier’s trims range from S to SV to PRO-4X, and the base setup is the most stripped-down. The PRO-4X stands out with a tube-style roof rack, unique 16-inch alloy wheels, knobby white-lettered tires, a standard spray-in bedliner, and bedside graphics, while the cabin is mostly hard plastic aside from the PRO-4X’s leather upholstery.
• Powertrain: The truck uses a 3.8-liter V6 with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It makes 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque, and the new setup is described as smooth, refined, and strong in acceleration.
• Safety package: The Frontier includes a reversing camera, antilock brakes, traction control, and stability control. Advanced driver-assistance features are not standard, and the truck’s crash-test results are a major weak point.
• Infotainment: The Frontier uses a 5.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It includes NissanConnect Apps, satellite radio, navigation, voice recognition, and a 10-speaker Rockford Fosgate premium sound system, but it does not have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The new engine improves fuel economy by 1 mpg in combined driving for rear-wheel-drive models and 2 mpg for four-wheel-drive models. The truck averaged 19.3 mpg on the test loop, beating the EPA estimate of 19 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2020 Nissan Frontier trim should I buy?

The 2020 Nissan Frontier is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, PRO-4X.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Frontier lineup. It keeps the truck’s basic, old-school character intact, but you give up the extra equipment and visual upgrades found higher up.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more flexibility, including available packages such as the Value Truck Package, Midnight Edition Package, Special Edition Package, and Utility Package. If you want a Frontier that feels more complete without jumping all the way to the off-road-focused model, this is the trim to target.
• PRO-4X: This is the most distinctive version, with the strongest visual and hardware upgrades in the lineup. It adds the tube-style roof rack, unique wheels, knobby tires, spray-in bedliner, bedside graphics, and standard Bilstein off-road shocks, making it the right pick if you want the most rugged Frontier.

The safety content makes clear that advanced safety technology is limited across the lineup, so don’t expect a trim-level fix for that weakness.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Nissan Frontier?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 865 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,683, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Nissan Frontier's resale value?

The current average of $20,683 sits slightly below last year's $22,234.

That softer pricing suggests the Frontier has already moved down from its prior level, which can help future buyers but may limit upside for a seller. If you own one, the truck’s value will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether it has a clean history. Because the market still shows steady inventory and some deal activity, a well-kept example should remain easier to move than a rough one.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Nissan Frontier safe?

The 2020 Nissan Frontier earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with a three-star rating for driver frontal impact, a two-star rating for front passenger frontal impact, and a three-star rollover resistance rating with RWD. It also earns a Marginal rating in the IIHS small overlap frontal-impact test and a Poor rating for headlights.

It earns a 1/10 safety score from our experts.

The Frontier’s standard safety equipment is limited to a reversing camera, antilock brakes, traction control, and stability control. Advanced driver-assistance features are not standard, and that lack of modern safety tech is one of the truck’s biggest drawbacks. The crash-test results are the clearest warning sign, so safety-conscious used buyers should look elsewhere.

Should I buy a 2020 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model’s brand-new engine and transmission give it a stronger powertrain than earlier second-generation Frontiers.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest version of this generation’s Frontier, the 2020 is the one to focus on because it brings the updated engine and transmission. If you’re mainly shopping on price, a nearby year may still make sense, but you should compare condition and equipment carefully because the 2020’s value is tied closely to its late-cycle mechanical update.

How does the 2020 Nissan Frontier compare to the 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2020 Nissan Frontier:

• Pros: Powerful engine, Off-road capability.
• Cons: Advanced safety features are not standard, Poor value for money, Outdated technology.

2020 Toyota Tacoma:

• Pros: Easy-to-use technology, Standard advanced safety features.
• Cons: Interior materials feel cheap, Underwhelming base engine.

Our experts score the 2020 Nissan Frontier 5/10 and the 2020 Toyota Tacoma 7.5/10. The Frontier has the stronger engine and some off-road appeal, but it gives up ground on safety tech, value, and technology.
