How much does the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost?

Prices have softened 11.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 563 listings available, which suggests you have a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class earns a 4.9/5 user rating, which points to very strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the luxurious feel, impressive performance, comfort of the ride, and advanced features. That lines up well if you want a flagship luxury sedan that emphasizes technology, refinement, and a high-end driving experience. With 30.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience in the sense that many drivers describe the car as comfortable and impressive over time, with the kind of luxury and features they can count on. At the same time, some owners note that maintenance costs can be high, so long-term ownership risk for used buyers is less about basic satisfaction and more about budgeting for upkeep.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

At 71.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you get too far into the process. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury sedan where repair costs can climb quickly if something has been neglected. Focus on overall condition, maintenance documentation, and signs of expensive wear rather than just the odometer reading.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 563 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.83% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $45,445, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?

The current average of $45,445 sits slightly below last year's $51,541.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For future sellers, the current trend means your best resale outcome will likely depend on condition, mileage, and maintenance history rather than broad market appreciation. Well-kept examples should still attract attention because this model has strong appeal in the luxury segment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.83% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $58,286, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $45,445 average.
• It brings a full redesign with more sophisticated infotainment and updated powertrains.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger value play, the 2020 is the better starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and meaningful deal availability. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2020 is the clear primary path; if you want the newer redesign and can stretch your budget, the 2021 is the secondary path to consider.
