How much does the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?

Prices have softened 8.25% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,053 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

You get a luxury car that emphasizes stylish design, impressive technology, and an effortless demeanor. It also offers multiple body styles, which makes it a flexible choice if you want the E-Class experience in different forms.

The trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and difficult-to-use technology, and the overview also points to poor fuel economy. Even so, if you want a premium used car with broad appeal and a polished feel, this model year fits that brief well.

36.6% of listings are marked as good or great deals, so you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview describes it as a solid, upscale choice, and the expert test-drive notes call it a rock-solid, impeccably built car. The performance write-up also says the revised turbocharged 4-cylinder is noticeably improved from previous years, with quicker response and less noise than before.

The cost-effectiveness notes add that Mercedes positions this car as a well-built luxury model, though depreciation is steep. For used buyers, that means the main long-term ownership risk is not basic durability so much as higher running costs and value loss over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-trim or heavily optioned car. Focus on overall condition, because this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well the luxury features, electronics, and cabin materials have held up.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base sedan is described as feeling several cuts above other cars in its segment, but it still uses leatherette and standard seats, so you should compare it carefully against better-equipped versions if you want the richest cabin experience.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder is improved over prior years, with 273 pound-feet of torque and quicker response than its horsepower figure suggests, but it is still described as underwhelming for a heavy car.
• Safety package: The Driver Assistance Package adds the semi-automated driving system, including steering assistance, obstacle avoidance help, lane changes by signal, curve slowing, and sensing people and objects around the car. Forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring are standard, while other driver-assist features are optional.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses dual high-resolution screens, and Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are standard. The tech can be difficult to use, so you should make sure the interface works for you before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is described as poor, and the performance data says the car returns EPA-estimated figures between 19 and 23 mpg city and 26 to 32 highway depending on configuration.

Which 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E350 sedan, E450 coupe, E450 4Matic wagon, E450 cabriolet.

Here's the short version:

• E350 sedan: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core E-Class experience at the lowest price. It is the best-value choice if you want the model’s style, technology, and comfort without stretching into the pricier body styles.
• E450 coupe: This version adds a more upscale two-door layout and a stronger V6 powertrain, making it the better pick if you want more effortless performance and a more expressive design.
• E450 4Matic wagon: This is the most practical choice if you want the E-Class experience with extra utility and all-wheel-drive confidence.
• E450 cabriolet: This is the most indulgent version, pairing the E-Class cabin with open-air driving and the most dramatic presentation.

The Driver Assistance Package is the key safety-package upgrade to look for if you want the fullest set of driver-assist features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,053 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.25% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,810, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?

The current average of $29,821 sits slightly below last year's $32,504.

That decline suggests the market has already absorbed some of the model’s depreciation, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it means resale value may remain under pressure unless the car is especially well kept and attractively equipped.

The model’s strong luxury appeal and broad body-style lineup should help sustain interest, but steep depreciation is still part of the ownership picture. If you buy well now, you may reduce some of that downside later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?

The E-Class sedan earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The sedan and wagon come with forward emergency braking, a driver attention monitor, and blind-spot monitoring as standard equipment. The Driver Assistance Package adds the more advanced semi-automated features, including steering help, lane changes by signal, curve slowing, and broader object detection.

One caveat is that the coupe and cabriolet were not tested by IIHS or NHTSA, so the strongest crash-test results apply to the sedan and wagon.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds a new base engine to the lineup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $35,986, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $29,821 average.
• It gets a mid-cycle update to the infotainment system, engines, and exterior styling.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because prices are lower and the market is more favorable. If you want the newer update and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade path.
