How much does the 2020 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 2.76% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,625 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Mazda CX-5 earns 4.8/5 from owners and 7.7/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable interior, smooth and quiet ride, and the ample power on the highway. They also highlight the luxurious feel and the safety features, which reinforces the CX-5’s upscale positioning.

The main trade-offs are outdated technology and some complaints about limited cargo space and rear legroom. That makes it a strong fit if you want a compact SUV that feels more premium than many rivals and still works well for everyday family use.

Good and great deals account for 38.1% of listings, so there are still attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many owners saying they feel good about the CX-5 over the long term. The same feedback also emphasizes comfort and a quiet ride, which usually matters when you plan to keep a vehicle for years.

The expert evaluation also describes the CX-5 as a cost-effective choice that feels like you’re getting your money’s worth. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a premium-feeling compact SUV can still bring premium expectations for condition and upkeep.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mazda CX-5?

At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and interior wear. Because some listings have prior incidents, condition matters more than usual, especially if you want the CX-5’s premium feel to hold up over time.

Pay close attention to how the cabin presents, how the tech works, and whether the vehicle feels as quiet and refined as advertised. If you’re shopping a higher-trim example, make sure the added equipment is functioning properly and matches the listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-5 has more standard equipment, revised instrumentation and control markings, and noise-reduction updates, while Signature trim adds premium Nappa leather upholstery, real wood, and a black headliner.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, while turbocharged versions raise output to 250 hp and 320 lb-ft on premium fuel or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular fuel.
• Safety package: The i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
• Infotainment: Sport trim gets a 7-inch touchscreen, Touring adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Grand Touring adds an 8-inch touchscreen and a 10-speaker Bose sound system, and Signature adds navigation and a surround-view camera system.
• Fuel efficiency: The naturally aspirated engine is rated at 28 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 26 mpg combined with all-wheel drive, while the turbocharged engine is rated at 24 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-5 experience with the standard engine, a 7-inch touchscreen, and the full safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without smartphone integration.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while keeping the CX-5’s strong safety and driving character intact. If you want the most useful everyday upgrade without jumping too far in price, this is the one to focus on.
• Grand Touring: This trim adds an 8-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, and a 10-speaker Bose premium sound system. It suits you if you want a more upscale tech experience and better cabin ambiance.
• Grand Touring Reserve: This is where the turbocharged engine arrives, giving you much stronger performance along with AWD. Choose it if you want more power and are willing to pay for it.
• Signature: This is the most luxurious version, with premium Nappa leather, real wood, a black headliner, navigation, and a surround-view camera system. It’s the right pick if you want the most premium CX-5 experience.

Adaptive headlights come standard with Grand Touring trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mazda CX-5?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,625 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.76% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,187, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $19,828 sits slightly below last year's $20,392.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also suggests future sellers may face a more competitive resale environment if prices continue to ease. The CX-5’s premium feel and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand, though condition and trim level will still matter a lot.

If you buy well and keep the vehicle in good shape, you’re more likely to preserve value than if you start with a rough example. Strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist. Standard LED headlights and rain-sensing wipers are also included, while adaptive headlights come standard with Grand Touring trim.

Should I buy a 2020 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model emphasizes premium design, strong safety, and a fun-to-drive character.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $18,597, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $19,828 average.
• It adds improved handling, smartphone connectivity, and stronger turbo trims.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,727, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $19,828 average.
• It adds enhanced tech and a new Carbon Edition.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the sweet spot if you want the CX-5’s premium feel, strong safety, and solid market availability without paying newer-model pricing. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 is the value play; if you want newer tech and don’t mind paying more, the 2021 is the upgrade path.
