Why it stands out
The 2020 Kia Forte stands out as an affordable compact sedan that delivers a lot of the appeal buyers usually expect from pricier cars. It is described as priced like a compact car while offering nearly as much room as a midsize sedan, and the turbocharged Forte GT brings the performance typical of an entry-level sport sedan. That combination makes it an appealing choice for drivers who want something practical but still engaging.
Its strengths also include stylish design, excellent value for money, and premium interior materials. The car’s German-influenced tuning is presented as a key part of what makes the Forte GT feel like a serious driver’s car, and it is characterized as terrific fun to drive. At the same time, the base engine is called underwhelming, so buyers looking at the Forte for its everyday value may want to keep expectations in check if they are not choosing the turbocharged version.

I have the LXS model, this is loaded with very feature from Collison avoidance to lane assistance. Smart mode gets 41 mpg while sport mode provides nice performance at the cost of 21 mpg. Its like I have 2 cars in 1 and if the emblem said Honda or Toyota I would have easily spent 10k more

The car is comfortable and moves well. The lack of fast acceleration is noticeable, but the handling is superb.

Oh wow, I love this car! the forte GT model has everything you would want in a car at a fantastic price and the warranty is out of this world Kia has one of the best there is to offer. The car handles extremely well and has more speed than you really need at times and if your just a average driver that is ok your the pick up speed in any mode is great but the sport is like a rocket. I also love the sound system in this car excellent crisp sound. and the comfort of the seats are very relaxing and heated as well as cooled. you have great visibility with plenty of windows to avoid the blind spots. the out side is stunning with the color contras mine is black and red very sexy. Over all i would recommend this car as of now but I only had it for a week and so far Im in love I find my self running to the store way out of my way for no reason at all just to sit in it and listen to the music and drive.

Unbelievable value. My model is the 2020 Forte GT DCT w/GT2 package. Very peppy engine that has a lot of energy. Endless safety features. Overall style is very impressive and gets compliments from everyone. Its very fun to drive. The sport exhaust sounds amazing and the turbo whistles everytime you pull away.

2020 Kia Forte Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2020 Kia Forte prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2020 Kia Forte cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,820 |
| Year-Round Low | $12,742.18 |
| Year-Round High | $14,413.59 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,411 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.04% |
Prices have softened 11.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,458 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare. If you find a listing below $12,742.18, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Kia Forte a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Kia Forte earns a 4.56/5 user rating and a 9/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its great value, fun driving experience, and excellent fuel economy. The expert review also highlights its stylish design and premium interior materials, which help it feel more upscale than many compact sedans.
The main trade-off is that the underwhelming base engine can leave everyday buyers wanting more, especially if you are not choosing the turbocharged version. The Forte is framed as a practical compact sedan with nearly midsize-like room, while the GT version is the one that brings the more engaging sport-sedan character.
With 29.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Kia Forte reliable?
Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free enough to inspire confidence over time. The expert review also emphasizes the Forte’s industry-standard warranty program and its 10 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain protection alongside 5 years or 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and roadside assistance.
That combination makes the Forte easier to count on as a used purchase, especially if you want lower ownership risk and strong support for long-term use. For a used buyer, the biggest reliability risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about how well the specific car has been maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Kia Forte?
At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you get too far into the process, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the car has any accident or repair history. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, tire wear, brake feel, and whether the car drives straight and stops cleanly. If you are considering a GT, pay extra attention to signs of hard driving and wear on performance-oriented components.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The GT stands apart with a turbocharged engine, a dual-clutch transmission, a sport-tuned suspension, active exhaust, larger front brakes, and bigger 18-inch wheels. The interior also gets sport-sedan touches like red seat piping, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and gloss black trim.
- Powertrain: The GT uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder with 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, while other Fortes use a 147-hp 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. The DCT is described as exceptionally well behaved, and the manual version costs more because it includes additional equipment.
- Safety package: The Forte comes with advanced driver-assistance systems, and the GT with the GT2 Package includes all of them. The suite includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and 911 Connect through UVO eServices.
- Infotainment: Every 2020 Forte has an 8-inch touchscreen, plus Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a reversing camera. The EX and GT add SiriusXM satellite radio and connected services through Kia’s Your Voice (UVO) technology.
- Fuel efficiency: The owner feedback highlights excellent fuel economy, and the expert review reinforces the Forte’s value-oriented efficiency focus.
Which 2020 Kia Forte trim should I buy?
The 2020 Kia Forte is offered in 5 trim levels: Forte, Forte LXS, Forte EX, Forte GT-Line, Forte GT.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The standard Forte is the cheapest entry point, but you give up the nicer wheels and extras found higher up the range. If you want the lowest price, this is the starting point, though the base engine is described as underwhelming.
- Sweet-spot trim: The Forte EX is the best value if you want a well-equipped daily driver without paying for the GT’s performance hardware. It is described as loaded with everything the test car offers except the GT’s performance pieces.
- Premium/top trim: The Forte GT is the one to choose if you want the most engaging driving experience. It adds the turbocharged engine, sport-tuned hardware, and the strongest performance character in the lineup.
The GT with the GT2 Package is the trim to look for if you want the full safety and tech experience.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Kia Forte?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,458 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.04% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,742.18, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Kia Forte's resale value?
The current average of $12,820 sits slightly below last year's $14,411.
That price movement suggests the Forte has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A lower entry cost can make it easier to preserve value later, especially if the car remains in good condition and has a clean history.
The market also appears supportive enough that you should not expect a dramatic rebound in the near term, so condition and trim choice matter more than timing alone. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Kia Forte safe?
A Top Safety Pick according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2020 Kia Forte comes with numerous advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety suite includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and 911 Connect through UVO eServices. The GT with the GT2 Package includes all of these systems, while the review notes that automatic emergency braking works only at lower speeds and adaptive cruise control does not bring the car to a full stop.
That means the Forte is well equipped for everyday safety, but you should still treat the driver-assistance systems as support tools rather than substitutes for attentive driving. If you are shopping a lower trim, confirm which assistance features are included before you buy.
Should I buy a 2020 Kia Forte or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.04% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 brings the turbocharged GT, which adds real performance to the Forte lineup.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $11,836, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $12,820 average.
- It offers tremendous value and minimal compromise as a daily driver.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger performance story and a still-reasonable used price, the 2020 is the better pick. If your priority is spending less up front and you mainly want a practical compact sedan, the 2019 is the more budget-friendly path.
