What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Kia Forte?

At 62.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on body condition, tire wear, brake feel, and how the transmission and steering behave on a test drive. If you’re comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example with the best maintenance record is usually the safer buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GT stands apart with a turbocharged engine, a dual-clutch transmission, a sport-tuned suspension, active exhaust, larger front brakes, and bigger 18-inch wheels. It also adds styling changes and a more performance-focused cabin, while the standard Forte lineup is more value-oriented.
• Powertrain: The GT uses a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder with 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, while other Fortes use a 147-hp 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. The DCT is described as well behaved, and the manual GT brings extra equipment with it.
• Safety package: The Forte is a Top Safety Pick from IIHS and includes numerous advanced driver-assistance systems. Standard systems include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist, though the automatic emergency braking works only at lower speeds and adaptive cruise control does not bring the car to a full stop.
• Infotainment: Every 2020 Forte has an 8-inch touchscreen, plus Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a reversing camera. The EX and GT add SiriusXM satellite radio and connected services through Kia’s Your Voice (UVO) technology.
• Fuel efficiency: The GT’s turbocharged setup is described as a performance-oriented trade-off, while the standard Forte is presented as more fuel-efficient than heavier SUV alternatives.

Which 2020 Kia Forte trim should I buy?

The 2020 Kia Forte is offered in 5 trim levels: Forte LXS, Forte EX, Forte GT-Line, Forte GT, Forte GT with manual transmission.

Here's the short version:

• Forte LXS: This is the value-minded step up from the base car, adding a standard CVT, nicer wheels, and a few extras. It makes sense if you want a better-equipped Forte without moving too far up the price ladder.
• Forte EX: This is the best-value trim if you want the richest everyday equipment without paying for the GT’s performance hardware. The expert notes say it is loaded with everything the test car offers except the GT-specific performance pieces.
• Forte GT-Line: Choose this if you want the sporty look without the full performance character. It gives you the appearance upgrade while staying more affordable than the GT.
• Forte GT: This is the trim to buy if you want the Forte’s real performance story. It adds the turbocharged engine, sport-tuned chassis hardware, and the most distinctive driving character in the lineup.
• Forte GT with manual transmission: Pick this if you specifically want the GT experience with a manual gearbox and the extra equipment that comes with it.

The GT2 Package is the safety-package note to keep in mind, since it brings all of the Forte’s advanced driver-assistance systems on the GT.

• Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,547 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.36% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,676, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Kia Forte's resale value?

The current average of $12,729 sits slightly below last year's $13,593.

That softer pricing trend suggests the Forte is currently a buyer-friendly used car, but it also means future sellers may face some pressure if the market stays soft. If you buy well now, you may benefit from the lower entry price, but resale gains are likely to depend more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market appreciation. Well-kept examples should still attract interest because the Forte’s value story remains one of its biggest strengths.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
