CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Jeep Wrangler
overall

Summary
With 593 currently listed for sale near Hartford, CT and an average price of $22,973, 29.2% of 2020 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Jeep Wrangler 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
95.1% of 2020 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler stands out first for its identity: it is an American 4x4 icon with military roots and millions of miles of trails traversed. That heritage gives it a kind of brand recognition few vehicles can match, and it remains appealing to buyers who want a rugged, trail-focused SUV rather than a soft-road crossover. The Wrangler also offers multiple powertrain options and strong off-road capability, which helps explain why it continues to attract shoppers looking for something distinctive and purpose-built.
For 2020, Jeep adds a new diesel engine in the Wrangler Unlimited, giving it newfound grunt. That change is aimed at broadening the Wrangler’s appeal, especially for buyers who want more muscle from the Unlimited. Even so, the model’s biggest drawback remains fuel economy: Jeep’s off-road focus still comes with poor efficiency, and the new diesel is described as a wash when it comes to your wallet. Owners also tend to value the rugged design and off-road ability, while some note the absence of certain features like adaptive cruise control and mention noise as a downside.

This jeep is absolutely beautiful I don’t think I would’ve found something as spot on to what vehicle I was looking for in another location. The soft top to the jeep makes it way easier to ride with the top opened up compared to the hard top jeeps which I love. The value of it was absolutely worth it too compared to other jeeps I’ve seen with the same amount of mileage you can’t really find something to beat its value. Overall I will definitely be referring friends and family to search for their cars here when they’re in the market for one.

This jeep is beautiful. I loved everything about it. The only reason I haven’t bought it is the engine size. I’m needing a 6 cylinder.

How much does the 2020 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $25,508 |
| Year-Round Low | $25,508 |
| Year-Round High | $29,075 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $29,073 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.26% |
Prices have softened 12.26% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 7,897 listings available, which gives you a healthy amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Generally — the 2020 Jeep Wrangler earns 4.38/5 from owners and 7.67/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Owners repeatedly praise the rugged design, off-road capability, and the mix of comfort and modern features such as heated seats. The Wrangler’s identity also comes through clearly in its trail-focused character and distinctive styling, which is a big part of its appeal.
The trade-offs are just as clear: fuel economy is a common complaint, and some owners note the lack of features like adaptive cruise control along with noise concerns. That makes it a better fit if you want a purpose-built SUV for adventure rather than a quiet commuter.
The Wrangler’s appeal is strongest if you want a rugged, trail-focused SUV instead of a soft-road crossover. Even so, 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you can still shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle people tend to keep and enjoy for its ruggedness, off-road ability, and overall dependability in the way it fits their lifestyle. That kind of long-term enthusiasm matters when you’re evaluating a used Wrangler.
The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Wrangler is built around a durable, purpose-driven formula, with strong off-road hardware and a design meant for hard use. The diesel option adds extra torque, which can make the vehicle feel more capable in demanding driving.
If you’re buying used, the main ownership risk is less about whether it can do the job and more about whether the specific example has been maintained and used hard off-road.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Jeep Wrangler?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean. A pre-purchase inspection matters here because the Wrangler’s off-road life can leave behind wear that isn’t obvious in photos.
Focus on condition, equipment, and signs of heavy use. Pay close attention to whether the features you want are actually present, since trim and package content varies a lot.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport is very bare-bones, with a 5-inch touchscreen, manual windows and locks, and little else. The Sport S adds power windows and locks, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry, while the Sahara brings a more upscale feel with body-color fender flares, 18-inch alloy wheels, bigger brakes, and more available comfort features. The Rubicon is the most off-road-focused choice, with a lifted suspension and mud-terrain tires.
- Powertrain: You can choose a 3.6-liter V6, a turbocharged 4-cylinder, or a new 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. The diesel delivers the most torque and stronger low-speed performance, while the V6 comes with a standard 6-speed manual and the other engines use an 8-speed automatic.
- Safety package: The standard safety equipment includes airbags, electronic roll mitigation, and a backup camera. The base safety package adds rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection, while the Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control and full-speed forward-collision warning.
- Infotainment: The Sport and Sport S use a 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and USB. The Sahara and Rubicon come standard with a 7-inch touchscreen with Uconnect, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and an available 8.4-inch system adds navigation, HD Radio, real-time traffic and weather updates, and a WiFi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The diesel returns 22 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined. The most efficient gas version returns 21 mpg city, 22 highway, and 21 combined.
Which 2020 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the most stripped-down version, so it makes sense only if you want the lowest entry point and plan to add equipment carefully. It comes with the basics, but the lack of power windows, power locks, and a larger touchscreen makes it feel very spartan.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the everyday conveniences you’ll notice immediately, including power windows and locks, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry. It also opens the door to useful option packages like the Technology Package and Cold Weather Group.
- Sahara: This is the more upscale choice if you want a Wrangler that feels better equipped for daily use. It adds a more polished look, standard 7-inch infotainment, and access to comfort upgrades like leather seating and the hardtop with interior headliner.
- Rubicon: This is the one to buy if your priority is off-road capability above all else. It gets the most serious hardware, including a lifted suspension and mud-terrain tires, and it carries much of the Sahara’s cabin content.
The safety packages are worth considering on any trim, especially if you want blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection, or adaptive cruise control.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Jeep Wrangler?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 7,897 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.26% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,508, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $25,508 sits slightly below last year's $29,073.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than just the badge alone.
Wrangler shoppers tend to value the model’s identity, capability, and owner satisfaction, which helps support demand over time. Well-kept examples with the right trim and options should remain easier to move than neglected ones.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler safe?
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes airbags, electronic roll mitigation, and a backup camera. The base safety package adds rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection, while the Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control and full-speed forward-collision warning.
You should also note that some helpful driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard, so trim and package selection matters here. If safety equipment is a priority, make sure the specific vehicle you’re considering has the right package.
Should I buy a 2020 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.26% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 adds a new diesel engine in the Wrangler Unlimited, broadening powertrain choice.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $28,076, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,508 average.
- It adds a Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid and a Hemi V8 in the four-door Unlimited.
The bottom line: If you want the better buy on price and still want the Wrangler’s core identity, the 2020 is the stronger starting point. If you’re willing to spend more for newer powertrain choices, the 2021 is the better path; price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2020 and shop for a clean, well-equipped example.
