For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure you avoid a poorly maintained example, since condition and service history matter more when a model has a mixed reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Jeep Cherokee?

At 71% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on the transmission, drivability, and any warning lights or unusual behavior during a test drive. Pay close attention to overall condition, because a clean-looking listing can still hide issues that matter for long-term ownership.

What is the 2020 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $16,339 sits slightly below last year's $18,056.

That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale may depend heavily on how well you preserve the vehicle. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintenance records organized, you can help protect value when it is time to sell. A clean history and strong condition matter especially in a market where shoppers have plenty of alternatives.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $18,451, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $16,339 average.
• It adds a more modern-feeling tech and capability package.

The 2020 is the better starting point if you want lower upfront cost and a healthier deal pool. If you can stretch for the 2021, you may prefer the newer-year premium only if the added refinement and equipment matter more than price. For most price-sensitive shoppers, the 2020 is the more practical buy.
