How much does the 2020 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 2,280 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — 4.53/5 is a strong user rating for the 2020 Hyundai Elantra, and the expert rating is 8.33/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its great value, gas mileage, and smooth ride, and many also like the safety features and updated technology. The Elantra is also described as spacious and an excellent value for money, which fits a budget-minded compact sedan well. On the trade-off side, the expert notes fairly pedestrian performance and poor fuel economy.

With a use case centered on commuting and everyday practicality, this model makes the most sense if you want a roomy, value-focused sedan rather than something engaging to drive. The market also shows 32.3% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.53/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers highlighting value, smooth ride quality, and features they can count on over time. The expert notes that Hyundai includes free scheduled maintenance for the first three years or 36,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership hassle. The powertrain warranty and roadside assistance coverage also support the case for lower-risk long-term ownership.

For used buyers, the main risk is less about basic durability and more about finding a well-kept example with consistent service history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra?

At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows uneven wear. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, tire wear, and how the safety and tech features operate in real-world use. Because this model year leans heavily on value, condition matters a lot when you compare similarly priced listings.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Six versions are available: base SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, Limited, and Sport. The base SE is the most stripped-down, with a 5-inch screen, while SEL adds a larger 7-inch display plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM. Limited brings wireless charging and a premium Infinity audio system, and Sport adds its own performance-oriented hardware and tech package options.
• Powertrain: The standard setup is a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a CVT and front-wheel drive. Eco uses a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and better combined fuel economy, while Sport gets a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder with 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Smart Sense is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. Starting with SEL, you also get blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, while Limited and Sport add full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation. The Ultimate Package on Limited adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, and Safe Exit Assist.
• Infotainment: Base SE gets a 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and a USB port. SEL upgrades to a 7-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM. Limited adds wireless smartphone charging and a premium Infinity sound system, and the Ultimate Package increases the screen to 8 inches and adds navigation, Blue Link Guidance, and SiriusXM data services.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard powertrain is rated at 34 mpg in combined driving, while the Eco returns 36 mpg combined. The expert also notes that the CVT improves gas mileage by 2 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2020 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 6 trim levels: base SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, Limited, and Sport.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, but it is the most basic version, with the smallest 5-inch screen and the fewest convenience features. It makes sense only if your priority is the lowest possible purchase price.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 7-inch display, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Value Edition: This trim is aimed at shoppers who want more connected-car convenience, including Blue Link Connected Car and Remote plans for the first three years of ownership.
• Eco: Choose this if fuel economy matters most, since it uses the turbocharged 1.4-liter engine and returns 36 mpg combined.
• Limited: This is the comfort-and-tech upgrade, with wireless charging, a premium Infinity sound system, and access to the larger 8-inch screen and navigation through the Ultimate Package.
• Sport: Pick this if you want the strongest performance, since it uses the 201-horsepower turbo engine and gets the more capable suspension setup.

Smart Sense is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert start with SEL, and the full LED headlights are reserved for Limited and Sport.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Elantra?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,280 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,466, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $13,615 sits slightly above last year's $13,487.

That small increase suggests the market has stayed stable rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that usually means you are less likely to face a steep value drop if you buy at the right price and keep the car in good condition. The Elantra's value-focused reputation also helps support steady demand among budget-conscious shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.53/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The 2020 Hyundai Elantra earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety when equipped with full LED headlights, and it earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai Smart Sense is standard on all trim levels and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a driver attention monitor. Starting with SEL, you also get blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert, while Limited and Sport add full LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation. The Ultimate Package on Limited adds adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, and Safe Exit Assist.

One caveat to keep in mind is the NHTSA note about rear-door intrusion in the side-impact test, so condition and trim equipment matter when you shop used.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.53/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Hyundai added free scheduled maintenance, improved fuel economy ratings, and new standard safety features.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $11,659, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $13,615 average.
• It remains a strong value pick with the turbo Sport trim changing the driving experience most.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,733, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $13,615 average.
• It brings a redesigned cabin with broader appeal and stronger tech.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and value, the 2020 is the sensible choice. If you are price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the redesign and are willing to pay more.
