Overview
Despite looking the same, the subcompact Hyundai Accent makes big moves toward improved efficiency for 2020.
Last year’s 1.6-liter engine was completely redesigned. It now makes 120 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. While the 6-speed manual transmission still comes standard, the optional 6-speed automatic transmission has been swapped for a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). These changes boost the Accent’s fuel economy to 33 mpg city, 41 highway, and 36 combined. As before, all Accents are front-wheel drive (FWD).
Hyundai offers the Accent in SE, SEL, and Limited trims. The base SE trim includes a 5-inch touchscreen, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, and Bluetooth connectivity. The SEL trim comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and dual USB charging ports. Finally, the Limited trim gets 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, Hyundai's Blue Link telematics, keyless access, and keyless start.
The Accent comes standard with airbags and a reversing camera. Nicer trims include a blind-spot mirror, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. The Hyundai Accent earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2019.
The Hyundai Accent remains a value-focused subcompact sedan, albeit one that’s quite a bit more efficient than it was last year. It competes with other subcompact sedans like the Nissan Versa and Kia Rio.

How much does the 2020 Hyundai Accent cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $11,049 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,788 |
| Year-Round High | $12,017 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,994 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.87% |
Prices have softened 7.87% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 231 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2020 Hyundai Accent a good car?
The market verdict for this model year is moderate, which points to a sensible used-car choice if you want to balance price and availability. With 29.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance of finding a competitively priced example if you shop carefully.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Accent?
At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should prioritize a vehicle history report before you commit, then focus your inspection on signs of prior repair quality and overall condition. A pre-purchase inspection is especially useful here because it can help you separate a clean, well-kept car from one with hidden issues.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Accent?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient and compare listings closely.
- Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 231 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.87% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,788, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Hyundai Accent's resale value?
The current average of $11,049 sits slightly below last year's $11,994.
That softer pricing suggests the model year has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help you if you're buying now and may limit how much value drops in the near term. If you plan to sell later, condition and mileage will matter a lot because the market is already pricing this car conservatively. A clean history and strong maintenance record should help you protect more of your resale value.
Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Accent or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.87% compared with last year.
The bottom line: The 2020 is a reasonable choice if you want a lower-priced entry point and are willing to shop carefully for condition.
