Overview

The Honda Insight is a compact hybrid sedan similar to the Toyota Corolla Hybrid. It debuted last year and goes fundamentally unchanged for 2020.
Every Insight comes with a 1.5-liter engine, a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and dual motors. Together, they produce 151.5 horsepower. Honda includes Econ, Sport, and EV modes for different types of driving. Fuel-economy ratings for the LX and EX trims are the same as last year: 55 mpg city, 49 highway, and 52 combined. The Touring trim returns 51, 45, and 48.
You can get the Insight in three trims: LX, EX, and Touring. The LX trim comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, LED taillights, keyless start, a 6-speaker audio system, and a 5-inch LCD. The EX trim comes with an 8-inch infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, keyless access, remote engine start, an 8-speaker audio system, and satellite radio. Finally, the Touring trim comes with leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power moonroof, WiFi hotspot capability, a 10-speaker audio system, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, power front seats, navigation, and LED fog lights.
Honda Sensing, the company's safety system, comes standard on every Insight. It includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, traffic-sign recognition, and road-departure mitigation. EX and Touring trims come with LaneWatch, which includes a camera feed of the car’s right side that makes parking and changing lanes easier. The Touring trim comes with rain-sensing wipers. Last year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Insight with a Top Safety Pick+ award.
Honda's Insight continues to be one of the most efficient ways to carry five people.

I bought a ‘21 Touring. I love the comfort and smooth ride. The transition from electric to gas is seamless. Still learning to drive it for mileage but I’m over 40mpg now.

Honda Insight EX was everything I thought it would be and more! I just need to read the owners manual carefully to learn all of the features that are available.:-)

Great value. Excellent technology. Similar to Volt but more comfortable interior for taller drivers. Feels like a Lexus hybrid. HondaLink is similar to Onstar but with more features and less cost

Great car!! Loved almost everything about it (at the EX trim level) and its a great price, but I decided to go with a Toyota Prius, because it has a hatchback and an AWD option and a longer history with hybrid tech. I have to wait for the 2021 models though, because unlike the Insight, the Prius does not yet support Android auto. Some might find the button shifting on the Insight odd, but it didnt bother me. On the other hand, one thing I really loved about it was the road sign assist. It brought speed limit signs up next to my speedometer, which was really cool. If it had a hatchback, I would probably own it already tbh.

How much does the 2020 Honda Insight cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,891 |
| Year-Round Low | $17,344.97 |
| Year-Round High | $19,890.64 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,470 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +2.16% |
Prices are up 2.16% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 186 listings available, which gives you some room to compare prices and condition across the market.
If you find a listing below $17,344.97, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Honda Insight a good car?
Yes — owners give it 5/5, which points to very strong overall satisfaction.
Drivers consistently praise the comfort, gas mileage, and technology. The spacious interior and easy-to-use Android Auto and Apple CarPlay also come up as recurring strengths.
With 26.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have a meaningful chance to find a competitive offer if you shop carefully.
Is the 2020 Honda Insight reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on comfort, fuel economy, and features that are easy to live with over time. That kind of feedback usually matters most when you want a used car you can count on for routine commuting and ownership.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is paying too much for a car whose condition or history does not match its strong reputation.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Insight?
At 72.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on body condition, panel alignment, and signs that the car has been repaired after an incident.
It also makes sense to compare mileage, maintenance records, and overall wear so you can separate a clean example from one that only looks good on the surface.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Insight?
This is a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and be ready to move when you find a strong listing.
- Deal availability: 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 186 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.16% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 72.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,344.97, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda Insight's resale value?
The current average of $19,891 sits slightly above last year's $19,470.
That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay a bit more for this model year, which can help support resale value if you buy well. Strong demand also tends to matter when you eventually sell, because buyers often respond to a car that has held its value and remains easy to shop for.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda Insight or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 72.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.16% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $17,727, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $19,891 average.
- It offers a more conventional sedan shape with practical interior and trunk space.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market case, the 2020 is the better primary pick because owner satisfaction is excellent and demand remains solid. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2019 is the better secondary path, especially if you value practicality and can find a clean example at a lower price.
