overall

Summary
With 2,567 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,788.00, 29.3% of 2020 Honda Civics for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda Civic 4.9 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
55.1% of 2020 Civic models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda Civic stands out as one of the best small cars you can buy, and its appeal comes from a mix of value, variety, and polish. For its 2020 model year, it received minor design tweaks, more standard safety and convenience features, and more manual transmissions. It also continues to offer the performance and quality of more expensive cars while retaining the value and longevity expected of a Honda.
Another strength is how many ways it can fit different buyers. The Civic offers multiple body styles and multiple powertrain options, which helps it cover a wide range of needs without losing its broad appeal. At the same time, it is not without compromise: outdated technology is a noted drawback, and some owners wish it had a bit more power and more USB ports. Even so, the 2020 Honda Civic remains a well-regarded choice for shoppers who want an affordable, reliable small car that is still enjoyable to drive.

Car drives really smooth, a great upgrade from my 2010 Kia Forte Koup. Everything in the car works great (was told most Hondas have AC issues but haven't had any issues with mine so far) highly recommend

I love this car. I just hope that future models will have blind spot on both passenger and drivers side. Otherwise, I think the car is near perfection. Great value for all it has to offer. The heated seats are a plus is cold weather.

How much does the 2020 Honda Civic cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $18,850 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,332.01 |
| Year-Round High | $19,961.80 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,961 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.57% |
Prices have softened 5.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,620 listings available, which suggests you have room to compare options before you buy.
If you find a listing below $18,332.01, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Honda Civic earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.
Owners repeatedly praise its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and fun driving experience. They also highlight the stylish design, safety advancements, and overall reliability and affordability.
The main trade-offs are outdated technology and a desire for more power and more USB ports. That matters most if you want the Civic as a daily driver that balances value, variety, and polish rather than chasing the newest cabin tech.
With multiple body styles and multiple powertrain options, it fits a wide range of buyers without losing its broad appeal. About 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2020 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a reliable, affordable car that people feel good about keeping for the long haul. It also gets described as well-regarded for being dependable and enjoyable to live with, with fuel economy and comfort adding to that reputation.
The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the powertrains as smooth and quick to rev, with responsive behavior from both the manual and CVT. The cost-effectiveness notes also emphasize the high level of refinement and quality baked into the car.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about core durability and more about whether the specific car has been maintained well and still feels fresh inside.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Civic?
At 55.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car is priced near the low end of the market. Focus on condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin tech and controls still work as expected.
Because this model is praised for value and variety, the best used example is often the one that has been cared for consistently rather than the one with the flashiest trim.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Civic comes in three body styles—sedan, coupe, and 4-door hatchback—and the cabin is described as simple but high-quality, with soft-touch materials and good switchgear. Base-trim shoppers should pay attention to feature gaps, since the 7-inch touchscreen is standard on all models except the base LX.
- Powertrain: Four engines and two transmissions are available across the lineup, all front-wheel drive. The base LX and Sport use a 2.0-liter inline-4, while EX and above trims use a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4; the hatchback Sport and Sport Touring make 180 hp, and the Si uses a boosted 1.5-liter with 205 hp.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on Si models and, for 2020, on every other Civic trim as well.
- Infotainment: The 7-inch touchscreen is standard on all models except the base LX, and it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is described as outdated and slower than newer Honda setups, so test it carefully.
- Fuel efficiency: The Si is rated at 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined, while the base LX sedan is rated at 25 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. Most CVT-equipped Civic models reach at least 30 mpg city and as high as 42 mpg highway.
Which 2020 Honda Civic trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda Civic is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Civic nameplate. It uses the 2.0-liter engine and a CVT, but you should expect fewer convenience features than higher trims.
- Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while keeping the Civic’s core strengths intact. It also gives you access to the manual transmission on the sedan, coupe, and hatchback, which is a big plus if you want a more engaging drive.
- EX: This is the trim to choose if you want the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and more standard comfort and convenience. It suits you best if you care more about everyday refinement and stronger mid-range response than about keeping the price as low as possible.
Honda Sensing is standard on Si models and, for 2020, on every other Civic trim as well.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Civic?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough deal activity to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,620 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.57% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,332.01, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $18,850 sits slightly below last year's $19,961.
That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. The Civic’s broad appeal, strong reputation, and steady demand should still help it hold attention better than many small cars.
Because the market already shows a meaningful year-over-year decline, resale value will likely depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda Civic safe?
The Civic earned the Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, and NHTSA rated it five stars in all categories except for a four-star passenger frontal crash rating on the coupe.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Honda also improved the optional LED headlights, which helped secure the IIHS result for all body styles except the Type R, which wasn't tested.
One caveat is that the coupe’s passenger frontal crash rating is lower than the rest of the lineup, so coupe shoppers should pay extra attention to that detail.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.57% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Minor design tweaks, more standard safety and convenience features, and more manual transmissions are the standout changes for this year.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $17,468, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $18,850 average.
- It keeps the Civic’s winning formula of style, value, and performance with only minor changes.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $19,374, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $18,850 average.
- It’s the outgoing version, with broad appeal from its design, body styles, and fun-to-drive reputation.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the best all-around pick if you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and variety. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 is the smarter price-first alternative, while the 2021 makes sense only if you want the newer-year example and are comfortable paying more.
