How much does the 2020 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have softened 5.68% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,772 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and body styles.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda Civic earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and fun driving experience. The user feedback also points to strong reliability, affordability, and a well-liked mix of tech features and safety advancements.

The main trade-offs are outdated technology and a desire for more power in some versions. That matters most if you want the newest infotainment setup, but the Civic still fits well if you want a practical compact car with multiple body styles and powertrain choices.

The market also looks reasonably accessible, with 30.2% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback describes it as reliable, and the overall tone suggests a car people feel good about keeping for the long haul.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes Honda’s value, refinement, style, safety, and high quality, while noting that the powertrains are smooth and responsive. That combination supports the Civic’s reputation as a dependable daily driver.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is less about core durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and still feels fresh inside.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Civic?

At 52.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior body damage or multiple owners. Focus on panel alignment, tire wear, brake feel, and whether the cabin electronics and safety systems work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic comes in three body styles—sedan, coupe, and 4-door hatchback—and the base LX misses the 7-inch touchscreen that is standard on most other models.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder with 158 horsepower on the base LX and uplevel Sport, plus a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 with 174 hp on EX and above; hatchback Sport and Sport Touring versions make 180 hp.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control; the Type R was not tested.
• Infotainment: Most models get a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while top trims add Garmin-based navigation; the system is described as outdated and complex.
• Fuel efficiency: The base LX sedan is rated at 25 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined, while the Si sedan is rated at 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Civic is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price, but it’s also the trim where you give up the standard 7-inch touchscreen and some convenience features found higher up.
• Sport: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while keeping the Civic’s core value proposition intact.
• EX: Choose this if you want the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and a more upscale daily-driving experience.

Honda Sensing is standard on all Civic trims except the Type R.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,772 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.68% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,328, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $18,573 sits slightly below last year's $19,692.

That softer pricing can help you buy at a better entry point today, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. For a seller, the current trend suggests you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim.

Well-kept Civics should still draw interest because the model has a strong reputation and broad appeal. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic safe?

The 2020 Honda Civic earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in all NHTSA categories, except for four stars in the passenger frontal crash rating on the coupe.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Honda also improved the optional LED headlights, which helped secure the IIHS recognition for all body styles except the Type R, which wasn’t tested.

The main caveat is that the coupe’s passenger frontal crash rating is lower than the rest of the lineup, so coupe shoppers should pay extra attention to crash-test details and trim-specific equipment.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Minor design tweaks, more standard safety and convenience features, and more manual transmissions are the standout changes for this year.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $17,165, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $18,573 average.
• It offers a familiar, lightly updated formula with style, value, and performance.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,218, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $18,573 average.
• It is the outgoing generation before a redesign, with broad appeal and strong value.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the right pick if you want the best mix of value, safety, and available inventory in this generation. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2019 is the better budget play; if you want the last year before the redesign, the 2021 is worth a look.
