How much does the 2020 Honda Civic cost?

Prices have softened 5.56% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,751 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and body styles.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — 4.9/5 from owners, and the expert rating is 8.17/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the Civic for its smooth ride, great fuel economy, and fun driving experience. They also highlight its tech features, safety advancements, stylish design, and overall reliability and affordability.

That lines up well with the Civic’s role as a practical compact car that still feels more upscale than many rivals. The main trade-off is outdated technology, and some drivers also want more power and more USB ports.

With 31.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a strong-value example.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as reliable and affordable, and they also point to a trouble-free ownership experience that makes it easy to count on. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Honda’s value-and-longevity formula, which supports the Civic’s reputation for dependable everyday use.

The Civic’s powertrains are described as smooth and flawless, which reinforces the sense that it should be easy to live with over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the car’s basic durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by heavy use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Civic?

At 53.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because the Civic’s appeal depends so much on value and longevity, condition matters a lot when you’re comparing similar-priced listings.

Pay extra attention to how the car drives, how the infotainment system responds, and whether the cabin shows unusual wear for the mileage. If you’re shopping a higher-trim example, make sure the equipment you expect is actually present and working.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Civic’s body styles and trim mix create meaningful feature gaps, especially at the lower end where the base LX misses some of the convenience and tech equipment found higher up.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 2.0-liter engine with 158 horsepower or a turbocharged 1.5-liter with 174 horsepower; hatchback Sport and Sport Touring models make 180 hp, and the Si uses a 205-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control, with active lane centering and auto high beams also noted on Si models.
• Infotainment: Most models get a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the base LX does not; the system is dated and more complex than newer Honda setups.
• Fuel efficiency: The Si is rated at 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined, while the base LX sedan is rated at 25/36/29; most CVT-equipped Civic models reach at least 30 mpg city and as high as 42 mpg highway.

Which 2020 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Civic is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, Sport, and EX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost Civic and are comfortable giving up some of the nicer tech and convenience features found higher up.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more appealing equipment mix while staying close to the Civic’s core value proposition.
• EX: Choose this if you want the turbocharged 1.5-liter engine and a more upscale everyday experience without moving into the more specialized upper trims.

Honda Sensing is standard on Si models and appears across the Civic lineup, which is a useful safety note if you’re comparing trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,751 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.56% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,329, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $18,684 sits slightly below last year's $19,784.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market continues to cool. For a seller, the current trend suggests you should expect value to hold reasonably well rather than surge.

The Civic’s broad appeal, strong reputation, and steady demand should still support resale better than many compact cars. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history should remain easier to move than rougher, higher-mileage cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Civic safe?

The Civic earned the Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rated it five stars in all categories except for four stars in the passenger frontal crash rating on the coupe.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing comes with forward collision warning, emergency forward braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Honda also improved the optional LED headlights, which helped secure the IIHS result across body styles except the Type R, which wasn’t tested.

The main caveat is that the coupe’s passenger frontal crash rating is lower than the rest of the lineup, so coupe shoppers should pay close attention to that detail when comparing body styles.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Minor design tweaks, more standard safety and convenience features, and more manual transmissions define this model year.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $17,392, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $18,684 average.
• It offers a familiar, lightly updated package with style, value, and performance.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,218, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $18,684 average.
• It is the last of its generation before the next redesign arrives.

The bottom line: The 2020 Civic is the right pick if you want a well-rounded compact car with strong value, broad trim and body-style choice, and solid safety. If your priority is saving money, the 2019 is the better bargain; if you want the final year of this generation, the 2021 is worth a look, but you’ll pay more for it.
