How much does the 2020 Ford Mustang cost?

Prices have softened 3.50% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,204 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Ford Mustang earns a 4.7/5 from owners and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its power, fun driving experience, stylish looks, and seat comfort. Many also like the range of engine choices, while some note the automatic transmission could be smoother.

That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a car that blends heritage and modern appeal rather than pure practicality. The main trade-offs are limited cargo space and the fact that advanced safety features are not standard.

With 29.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to find a strong-value example.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car people feel good about keeping, especially because they value its power, comfort, and overall driving experience. The review summary also suggests it can be a dependable choice for buyers who want a car they can count on for enjoyable daily use.

From the expert side, the Mustang’s performance setup is described as refined enough for daily driving while still delivering the raw edge enthusiasts expect. That balance supports the idea that it can be a satisfying long-term ownership choice if you’re comfortable with its sports-car compromises.

For used buyers, the biggest ownership risk is less about the core appeal and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

At 66.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had multiple owners or any bodywork. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s equipment matches the listing description. Because this model can be bought in very different configurations, it’s worth checking that the specific car you’re considering still feels tight, clean, and properly cared for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Bullitt special edition stands out with Dark Highland Green paint, unique green stitching, a serialized plaque, a white cue-ball shifter knob, and a retro-themed appearance that gives it a more distinctive look than the standard car.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 310-horsepower turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, while higher-performance versions add much more power and a manual transmission is available on some models.
• Safety package: The standard setup includes a reversing camera, MyKey, and 911 Assist, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is part of the optional Electronics Package.
• Infotainment: The car uses a Sync 3 system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and available 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder EcoBoost Mustang delivers 21 mpg city, 31 highway, 25 combined, while the Bullitt returns 14/23/17.

Which 2020 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Mustang is offered in 1 trim level: Bullitt.

Here's the short version:

The Bullitt is the standout choice if you want the most character-rich version of this model year. It adds the special-edition styling, unique interior details, and a more focused performance feel that make it the most distinctive Mustang described in the data. If you want the version that best captures the car’s nostalgic personality, this is the one to target.

The Bullitt also pairs that personality with strong performance hardware and a manual transmission, so it suits you best if you value engagement over convenience. It is not the cheapest path into the model, but it is the clearest expression of what makes this Mustang special.

The optional Electronics Package adds blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning, which is worth seeking out if safety tech matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Mustang?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,204 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.50% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,002, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Mustang's resale value?

The current average of $25,695 sits slightly below last year's $26,628.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also suggests future sellers may need to stay competitive on asking price. If the market continues to favor shoppers, resale values may remain under pressure unless the car is especially clean, well-equipped, or desirable.

The Mustang’s broad appeal and strong enthusiast following should still help support demand. Well-kept examples with the right configuration are likely to hold attention better than average-condition cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Mustang safe?

The 2020 Ford Mustang gets Good ratings in most IIHS crashworthiness tests, with an Acceptable rating for driver protection in a small overlap frontal-impact collision, and it earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA test, including rollover resistance.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety setup includes a reversing camera, MyKey, and 911 Assist, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is available through the optional Electronics Package. That means some useful driver-assistance features are not standard, so you should check the equipment list carefully on any used example.

The main caveat is the IIHS small-overlap result, which is weaker than the rest of its crash performance. If safety is a top priority, you’ll want to pay close attention to trim and option content.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 review highlights nostalgic styling, strong performance, and the Bullitt special edition.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,386, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,695 average.
• Ford added the Mach 1 trim for 2021.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and don’t need the next year’s added trim, the 2020 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for a broader lineup and the Mach 1 addition, the 2021 is the better path.
