How much does the 2020 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 9.27% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,604 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Ford Escape a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.42/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the Escape’s smooth driving experience, numerous features, and safety technology. The review summary also points to strong acceleration and comfort, which lines up with the vehicle’s polished, modern feel.

The main trade-offs are space for taller occupants, a noisy engine under acceleration, and mixed feedback on the gearshift design and wireless charging compatibility. In use, that means the Escape fits you best if you want a compact SUV that feels well-equipped and refined rather than maximized for cargo or rear-seat room.

With 33.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.42/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for smooth operation, comfort, and safety technology. That kind of feedback matters because it suggests the Escape is the sort of SUV you can count on for routine commuting and family duty.

The expert notes also reinforce that impression by describing the Escape as a polished, high-tech small SUV with strong everyday usability. Ford’s standard maintenance coverage language is not included here, so your best protection is to verify service records and look closely at how the vehicle has been maintained.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is buying a neglected example with unresolved wear items or prior damage.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Escape?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with incomplete service records. Focus your walkaround on interior wear, electronics, and signs that the vehicle has been used hard rather than just driven a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S is the most stripped-down version, with a 4.2-inch instrument-panel screen and a 4.2-inch center screen, while the SE adds the 8-inch Sync 3 system, automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat. CarGurus recommends the SE because it brings the best mix of equipment and value.
• Powertrain: The Escape offers four engine options, including a 3-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, and hybrid setups. The turbo engine provides brisk acceleration, while the hybrid is the most efficient version.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver drowsiness monitor. The base trim still gets the full suite.
• Infotainment: The base trim uses a 4.2-inch screen, while the SE upgrades to an 8-inch Sync 3 system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also supports over-the-air updates.
• Fuel efficiency: The non-Sport hybrid returns 44 mpg city, 37 highway, 41 combined. The SE Sport returns 43/37/40. The 1.5-liter turbo engine returns 27/33/30 combined, and with AWD it returns 26/31/26. The 2.0-liter turbo with AWD returns 23/31/26.

Which 2020 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Escape is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SE, SE Sport, SEL, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it’s pretty bare-bones with the small screens and simpler cabin setup. It does include FordPass Connect and the full driver-assistance suite, so it covers the essentials if you want the lowest price.
• SE: This is the best-value trim. It adds the 8-inch Sync 3 screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat, which makes it the smartest buy for most shoppers.
• SE Sport: This trim adds a sportier look and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and it also brings the hybrid drivetrain. It makes sense if you want efficiency with a more distinctive presentation.
• SEL: This trim adds more convenience and comfort, including fog lamps, roof racks, a hands-free power liftgate, memory for the driver’s seat, synthetic upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and one-touch windows all around.
• Titanium: This is the most premium version, with 19-inch wheels, LED fog lamps, acoustic-laminated glass, a dual-panel moonroof, wood trim, leather seating, and the B&O audio system. It suits you best if you want the most upscale Escape experience.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard across the lineup, so even the lower trims get the core safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Escape?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,604 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.27% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 75.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,037, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $15,037 sits slightly below last year's $16,574.

That price movement suggests the Escape has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you reduce the amount of value left to lose before resale.

The flip side is that a softer market can make it harder to recover top dollar unless your vehicle is especially clean, well maintained, and well equipped. Strong condition and desirable equipment matter more when shoppers have plenty of alternatives.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.42/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Escape safe?

The 2020 Ford Escape earned the best overall score of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in all phases of testing.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver drowsiness monitor. That means you get a broad set of active-safety features even on the lower trims.

The main caveat is that the vehicle has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), so you won’t find that additional crash-test layer here.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.42/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 redesign brought more car-like styling, stronger fuel-efficiency focus, and a broader powertrain lineup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,920, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $15,037 average.
• It adds new appearance packages, exterior colors, an available tow package, and slightly improved fuel economy.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because it already has the redesign, broad trim and powertrain choices, and softer pricing. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer model with minor updates, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative; if price matters most, the 2020 is the smarter buy.
