CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Ford Edge
overall

Summary
With 2,608 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,962, 31.9% of 2020 Ford Edges for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Ford Edge 4.63 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
77.6% of 2020 Edge models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Ford Edge is a midsize two-row SUV that stands out more for being well equipped than for making a dramatic visual statement. Its design is described as showing signs of age, and its styling is called uninspired, but Ford offsets that with plenty of standard tech and safety features. The result is a vehicle that does not try to wow buyers, yet still offers a straightforward, easy-to-live-with package.
That practicality is a big part of the Edge’s appeal. The technology is described as easy to use, and the standard advanced safety features add to its everyday value. Ford also offers a performance variant called the Edge ST, giving the lineup a sportier option that is not found in the Nissan Murano or Honda Passport. At the same time, the base engine is described as underwhelming, and the Edge is said to be getting long in the tooth, so shoppers looking for the most exciting or freshest SUV may find it less compelling than newer rivals.
Owners’ feedback reinforces the Edge’s strengths as a comfortable, spacious SUV with modern features and solid build quality. Some drivers did report technical issues, especially with the transmission and certain tech features, but the overall impression is that the 2020 Ford Edge remains a practical and appealing choice for buyers who value comfort, roominess, and a well-equipped cabin.

I was impressed with the features of the Ford Edge SE (i.e. backup camera, lane assist, multiple airbags, roominess, etc.) I was also impressed with the comfort of the seats and the comfort of the ride on rougher paved roads. Compared to my 2019 Ford Escape Titanium, I have only found two negatives: 1. Remote start is not on the keyfob but only available through the phone app 2. Manual liftgate instead of the power liftgate

This car has all the bells and whistles. Lane assist, auto headlights and whipers, wireless charging pad, number pad entry so you can leave your car running but locked, hands free lift gate sun and moon roof. The list goes on.

It is the best vehicle in its class for the money. I would compare this to an Audi SQ5, Mercedes AMG GL class, Mazda CX-5, Chevrolet Blazer, Genesis GV70 and many others.

How much does the 2020 Ford Edge cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,945 |
| Year-Round Low | $16,716 |
| Year-Round High | $18,479 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $18,477 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.29% |
Prices have softened 8.29% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,615 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of inventory to compare.
Is the 2020 Ford Edge a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Ford Edge earns a 4.63/5 user rating, and our experts give it an 8/10 overall score. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the comfort, spaciousness, modern features, and solid build quality. The roomy interior also stands out for families and taller passengers, and many owners view it as a strong choice even against luxury-brand alternatives.
The trade-offs are that some drivers reported technical issues, especially with the transmission and certain tech features, and the styling is described as uninspired. The Edge fits you best if you want a practical, easy-to-live-with two-row SUV rather than something flashy or especially exciting.
Good and great deals account for 32.5% of listings, so you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.63/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners’ feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with repeated praise for solid build quality and a vehicle that feels easy to count on. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Edge is a practical, well-equipped SUV that does its job without much drama.
Ford’s standard equipment and straightforward tech setup support that impression, and the available features are aimed at making daily use simpler rather than more complicated. If you want a used SUV you can live with for the long haul, the main risk to watch is the reported transmission and tech-related issues in some vehicles.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Edge?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free status is only one part of the picture. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with reported tech concerns. Focus on overall condition, how the transmission behaves, and whether the electronics work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE comes with a strong standard equipment list, but the SEL adds useful comfort and convenience upgrades like heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, and LED fog lights. The Titanium brings more premium touches, while the ST adds sportier styling and performance hardware.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, while the ST uses a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder is the efficiency play, and the ST is the choice if you want the strongest acceleration.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every trim and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on the SEL and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go traffic capability plus active lane centering.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless phone integration is not mentioned, and navigation is optional on the SEL and ST but standard on the Titanium.
- Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive four-cylinder returns 21 mpg city, 29 highway, 24 combined, while the all-wheel-drive version returns 21 mpg city, 28 highway, 23 combined. The ST returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined.
Which 2020 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2020 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, and ST.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the value play if you want the Edge’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get SYNC 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Ford Co-Pilot360, so it covers the essentials well.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a lot of everyday comfort and convenience, including heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, LED fog lights, and a premium audio system. It also unlocks the available Co-Pilot360 Assist+ package.
- Titanium: Choose this if you want a more upscale cabin, with genuine leather, larger wheels, a premium sound system, wireless charging, and standard navigation. It’s the trim that leans most clearly into comfort and luxury.
- ST: Pick this if you want the performance model. It gets the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, standard AWD, and sportier styling, making it the right choice if driving excitement matters most.
Ford’s standard Co-Pilot360 safety suite is a major plus across the lineup, and the SEL is the trim where the available safety upgrade becomes especially relevant.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Edge?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,615 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.29% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 78.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,716, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $16,945 sits slightly below last year's $18,477.
That decline suggests the Edge has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer pricing environment than owners saw a year ago. If you buy now, you’re entering at a lower price point than last year’s market average, which can help cushion depreciation.
The Edge’s broad appeal as a comfortable, well-equipped SUV should help support demand, especially for clean examples with strong service history. Trim choice and condition will matter a lot if you want to protect resale value later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.63/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Ford Edge safe?
The 2020 Ford Edge received a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every trim and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. If you move up to the SEL, you can add Co-Pilot360 Assist+ with adaptive cruise control and active lane centering.
One caveat is that IIHS headlight performance varies by trim level, so you should pay close attention to the specific vehicle’s equipment when shopping used.
Should I buy a 2020 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.29% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.63/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines standard Co-Pilot360 safety tech with easy-to-use infotainment and a practical cabin.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $15,368, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $16,945 average.
- It offers a practical family SUV with strong space and an available ST trim.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $19,236, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $16,945 average.
- It adds only modest tech updates while keeping the same roomy, familiar formula.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, equipment, and safety, the 2020 is the sweet spot. If your priority is saving money, the 2019 is the better value path. If you want a newer model year and don’t mind paying more, the 2021 is worth a look, but it doesn’t bring a major leap forward.
