CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Dodge Durango
overall

Summary
With 2,319 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,723, 32.3% of 2020 Dodge Durango listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Dodge Durango 4.56 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
70.0% of 2020 Dodge Durango listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Durango stands out by blending three-row SUV practicality with Dodge’s muscle-car image. It has eye-catching styling cues and is offered with a lineup of potent engines, which gives it a more performance-focused personality than many family haulers. That combination makes it appealing to buyers who want space and attitude in the same vehicle.
At the same time, the Durango is not the freshest-feeling SUV in the segment. It gives up some usability compared with leaders like the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and Kia Telluride, and it can feel a bit dated next to them. Even so, it remains attractive for shoppers who value multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and a spacious cabin, while its lack of standard advanced safety features is a notable drawback.

Like the overall design and look of this vehicle, it has a stylish appearance. The exterior is very attractive and clean, the interior is just as impressive. Although I’ve never actually seen it in person I’ve seen other versions (different colors), very sleek. Exceptional quality for the mileage. It could be a little less expensive, but the way everything is more expensive today it seems like a deal.

Not a good value car is missing middle console and parts are hanging. And the inside panels looks like it might him been submerged in water!!

Initially, looked good from the outside. Inside and test drive was a different story. Formerly a police vehicle. Rear seats didn't fold, had steel frame for the cage still installed. Back storage area floor is all steel. Took it for a short test drive and the front end shook like crazy. No thanks.

Great all around vehicle. Can tow pretty much any small to medium sized car, hauls anything you can imagine once you fold the 2nd and 3rd row seats down, including a full sized treadmill! Comfortable family vehicle that gets good mileage for its size with the cylinder deactivation feature.

How much does the 2020 Dodge Durango cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,710 |
| Year-Round Low | $20,710 |
| Year-Round High | $23,072 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,071 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.23% |
Prices have softened 10.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,326 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2020 Dodge Durango a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Dodge Durango earns a 4.56/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
You get a mix of spacious cabin space, easy-to-use technology, and multiple powertrain options, which lines up well if you want a three-row SUV with more personality than the average family hauler. The Durango also appeals if you value comfort and a smooth driving experience, and many owners praise its towing and performance.
The trade-offs are that advanced safety features are not standard, and the styling can feel uninspired compared with newer rivals. It also gives up some usability versus segment leaders, so it makes the most sense if you prioritize space, attitude, and available performance over the freshest cabin design.
The market shows 33.1% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2020 Dodge Durango reliable?
Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe the Durango as spacious, comfortable, and smooth, and those themes point to a vehicle that many owners feel good about living with over time. The feedback also highlights towing ability and performance, which suggests the Durango can handle family and utility duties with confidence.
The expert evaluation reinforces that it is a capable, dependable-feeling SUV with straightforward controls and strong everyday usability. The available maintenance perk language is not present here, so the ownership story rests more on the vehicle’s broad appeal and owner satisfaction than on any special service advantage.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a well-used example may have seen hard service, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Durango?
At 69.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage or lower-priced example. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and mechanicals match the seller’s description. Because the Durango can be bought in several configurations, it is worth confirming that the equipment on the listing matches the trim you think you are getting.
Key things to evaluate:
Trim level: The SXT comes standard with 18-inch wheels, three-zone climate control, manually adjustable front seats, a 7-inch digital instrument panel screen, dual USB ports, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a six-speaker stereo. The GT adds 20-inch wheels, a sport-inspired grille, remote start, LED fog lights, dual exhaust, a power rear liftgate, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and satellite radio. The R/T adds rain-sensing wipers, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, memory settings, leather-and-suede upholstery, heated front and rear seats, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen. The Citadel adds chrome exterior touches, polished aluminum wheels, a power moonroof, second-row captain’s chairs with a center console, and premium leather upholstery. The SRT adds a more aggressive front fascia, auto-leveling headlights, black wheels, ventilated front seats, and unique leather-and-suede seats. If you want the best value, the GT is the most balanced step up from the base model.
Powertrain: The SXT, GT, and Citadel use a 3.6-liter V6 with 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The R/T uses a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 360 hp and 390 lb-ft, and that engine is also available on the Citadel. The SRT uses a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. All engines use an 8-speed automatic, with rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive depending on trim. The V6 is the efficiency-minded choice, while the V8s bring stronger acceleration and a more muscular character.
Safety package: The Durango comes with a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and trailer sway control. Rear parking sensors are available on the SXT and standard on all other trims, while the R/T, Citadel, and SRT add front- and rear parking sensors. The Technology Group package adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, and lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring plus rear cross-path detection are also available. These features are not standard, so trim choice matters.
Infotainment: The SXT and GT use a 7-inch touchscreen, while an 8.4-inch touchscreen is optional on the GT and standard on all other trims. The system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the interface is designed for easy navigation. R/T, Citadel, and SRT trims add navigation and SiriusXM Travel Link, plus an Alpine premium audio system with nine speakers and a subwoofer. A 19-speaker Harman Kardon system is also available on those trims.
Fuel efficiency: The base V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined. With all-wheel drive, it returns 18/25/21 combined. The 5.7-liter V8 returns 14/22/17, and the SRT returns 13/19/15.
Which 2020 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?
The 2020 Dodge Durango is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, and SRT.
Here's the short version:
SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Durango’s core space and tech without pushing the price too high. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra convenience and luxury features found higher up.
GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful everyday upgrades like remote start, LED fog lights, a power liftgate, and a power driver’s seat. It is the trim to target if you want a more complete Durango without jumping into V8 pricing.
Citadel: This is the choice if you want a more upscale feel, with chrome accents, a moonroof, premium leather, and second-row captain’s chairs. It also can be had with the V8, which makes it a stronger fit if you want comfort and extra power together.
R/T: This is the right pick if you want the V8 experience with a more performance-oriented personality and a richer feature set. It adds heated seats, memory settings, and the larger touchscreen, so it suits buyers who want muscle and comfort in one package.
SRT: This is the enthusiast trim, with the most powerful engine, performance-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes, and a more aggressive look. It is the one to buy if you want the Durango at its most athletic and are willing to pay for it.
The safety package remains optional, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, look for a listing equipped with the Technology Group.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Durango?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,326 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.23% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,710, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $20,710 sits slightly below last year's $23,071.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market appreciation.
Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong equipment should hold up better than average, especially if they present cleanly and have a solid history. If you buy smart now, you may be able to limit depreciation pressure later by choosing a trim and condition level that stays broadly appealing.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Dodge Durango safe?
The Durango earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side crash testing and four-star ratings in all other phases. It also earned a score of Good in all IIHS crash tests except driver’s side small-front overlap, where it scored Moderate.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The Durango comes with a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and trailer sway control. Rear parking sensors are available on the SXT and standard on all other trims, while the R/T, Citadel, and SRT add front- and rear parking sensors.
The main safety caveat is that the Durango does not come standard with high-tech driver-assistance features. Adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection are all optional, so you need to check the equipment list carefully if those features matter to you.
Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.23% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It offers multiple powertrain choices and easy-to-use technology in a spacious three-row package.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $26,419, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,710 average.
- It brings a new infotainment system and more performance-focused variants.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and plenty of inventory. If you are willing to spend more for newer tech and a more updated feel, the 2021 is the better path. Price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2020, while shoppers who want the freshest version should wait for the next year.
