CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Dodge Challenger
overall

Summary
With 184 currently listed for sale near Naples, FL and an average price of $29,473.00, 26.1% of 2020 Dodge Challengers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Dodge Challenger 4.85 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
82.6% of 2020 Challenger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Challenger stands out by blending retro styling with modern technology and heart-pounding performance. It is also one of the last remaining modern muscle cars, and that old-school character gives it a distinct place in the market. For buyers who want a coupe that feels different from the usual sporty formula, the Challenger’s appeal is straightforward: it trades on the past while still using current automotive technology to deliver a fun-loving driving experience.
For 2020, the Challenger is largely unchanged, but it does gain several new colors, some additional interior design choices, and a 50th Anniversary package for some trims. Its strengths include a spacious interior, powerful engine choices, and easy-to-use technology. The main drawbacks are that advanced safety features are not standard and its styling may be polarizing, so it is best suited to shoppers who value character and performance as much as everyday usability.

I have to say the Dodge Challenger Widebody Scat Pack is an exciting car all around. It is a heavy, solid old school style MUSCLE CAR in all the good ways...spacious cabin with nice visibility, comfortable seats, all the very (easily) usable bells and whistles you could want and a huge trunk. Lots of engine gives it more than plenty of grunt and I am getting 18mpg all around driving. Solid build, great performance with no issues at all. I couldnt be happier with the value and how the car makes me feel. Very highly recommended!

See more price trendsHow much does the 2020 Dodge Challenger cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $29,021 |
| Year-Round Low | $27,619.69 |
| Year-Round High | $30,956.64 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $30,267 |

Prices have softened 4.12% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,076 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare. If you find a listing below $27,619.69, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Dodge Challenger earns a 4.85/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating.
The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, stylish looks, and comfortable ride. They also like the handling and responsiveness of the engine, along with the spacious interior and unique design.
The trade-offs are that advanced safety features are not standard, and the styling may be polarizing.
For you, that means the Challenger makes the most sense if you want a coupe with character, strong power, and everyday usability rather than a conventional sporty car.
The market still shows healthy interest, with 29.6% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as powerful, comfortable, and enjoyable to live with, and the feedback points to a car that many owners feel good about keeping over time. The recurring praise for its engine response and distinctive design also suggests it delivers the kind of ownership experience people tend to stick with.
The expert evaluation also emphasizes that it is a well-executed performance car with modern technology and broad capability. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the concept and more about how hard the car may have been driven and maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?
At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has performance upgrades or a long list of options. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of hard use, since this model’s appeal often attracts enthusiastic ownership. Pay extra attention to whether the equipment on the car matches the trim level you think you’re buying.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SXT starts with 18-inch aluminum wheels, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen. Higher trims add larger wheels, a hood scoop, remote start, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and a larger touchscreen.
- Powertrain: The lineup ranges from a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque to supercharged V8s with up to 797 horsepower and 707 pound-feet of torque. The V6 is the efficiency play, while the Scat Pack is the best performance-for-the-dollar choice.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also optional.
- Infotainment: The standard 7-inch touchscreen includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The available 8.4-inch system adds Garmin-based navigation with real-time traffic updates, and OTA capability is not mentioned.
- Fuel efficiency: The most efficient version returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined. The AWD V6 returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, 21 combined, the 5.7-liter V8 with the 8-speed automatic returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined, and the least-efficient variant returns 13 mpg city, 21 highway, 15 combined.
Which 2020 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?
The 2020 Dodge Challenger is offered in 9 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Scat Pack Widebody, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Widebody, SRT Hellcat Redeye, and SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SXT gives you the core Challenger experience, but it lacks the bigger wheels, performance hardware, and upgraded cabin touches found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The R/T Scat Pack is the best value if you want serious performance, since it adds the 6.4-liter V8, Brembo brakes, launch control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen.
- Premium/top trim: The SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody is the most extreme choice, pairing massive power with the wider body and the most aggressive hardware in the lineup.
The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, so check whether a used example has that package if safety tech matters to you.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward comparison shopping.
- Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,076 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.12% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $27,619.69, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $29,021 sits slightly below last year's $30,267.
That softer pricing can help you buy more selectively today, but it also means future resale may depend heavily on how well the car is equipped and maintained. Well-kept examples with desirable powertrains and clean histories should hold up better than rougher cars with accident records or heavy wear.
Because the model still draws strong interest from shoppers who want a distinctive muscle car, demand should remain healthy for the right example. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger safe?
The Challenger earns a “Good” result in many IIHS crash-test phases, though it also carries an overall “Marginal” score. It earns four-star ratings in front driver’s side crash testing and rollover, and five-star ratings for front passenger side testing from NHTSA.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also available.
The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should verify which driver-assistance items are actually installed on any used example you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.12% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds new colors, extra interior choices, and a 50th Anniversary package for some trims.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $32,283, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $29,021 average.
- It leans harder into straight-line speed and high-tech dragster character.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer-year example and want the next step up in the model’s evolution, the 2021 is the secondary path to consider.
