CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Dodge Challenger
overall

Summary
With 2,022 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,458.00, 28.7% of 2020 Dodge Challengers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Dodge Challenger 4.85 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
61.5% of 2020 Challenger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Challenger stands out by blending retro styling with modern technology and heart-pounding performance. It is also one of the last remaining modern muscle cars, and that old-school character gives it a distinct place in the market. For buyers who want a coupe that feels different from the usual sporty formula, the Challenger’s appeal is straightforward: it trades on the past while still using current automotive technology to deliver a fun-loving driving experience.
For 2020, the Challenger is largely unchanged, but it does gain several new colors, some additional interior design choices, and a 50th Anniversary package for some trims. Its strengths include a spacious interior, powerful engine choices, and easy-to-use technology. The main drawbacks are that advanced safety features are not standard and its styling may be polarizing, so it is best suited to shoppers who value character and performance as much as everyday usability.

I have to say the Dodge Challenger Widebody Scat Pack is an exciting car all around. It is a heavy, solid old school style MUSCLE CAR in all the good ways...spacious cabin with nice visibility, comfortable seats, all the very (easily) usable bells and whistles you could want and a huge trunk. Lots of engine gives it more than plenty of grunt and I am getting 18mpg all around driving. Solid build, great performance with no issues at all. I couldnt be happier with the value and how the car makes me feel. Very highly recommended!

Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the car’s strong performance and comfortable ride over time. Drivers also describe it as a vehicle they enjoy living with, which supports the idea that it can be a trouble-free choice when maintained properly.
The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Challenger delivers a fun-loving driving experience while still using current automotive technology, which reinforces its day-to-day usability. On the cost side, the model’s efficient V6 and value-oriented performance trims help keep ownership more manageable than the highest-output versions.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-performance trims can bring higher running costs, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?
At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-performance trim or a car with modified-looking equipment. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the car’s features and wear match its mileage and asking price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SXT starts with 18-inch aluminum wheels, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The GT adds 20-inch wheels, a hood scoop, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, and unique houndstooth cloth seats. The R/T adds a V8 and performance upgrades, while the R/T Scat Pack adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen.
- Powertrain: The SXT and GT use a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, with rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. The R/T uses a 5.7-liter Hemi V8, the R/T Scat Pack steps up to a 6.4-liter Hemi V8, and Hellcat models use supercharged 6.2-liter V8s for serious straight-line performance.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also optional.
- Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The available Uconnect 8.4 adds a larger screen and Garmin-based navigation with real-time traffic updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The base V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined. The V6 with AWD returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, 21 combined. The 5.7-liter V8 with the 8-speed automatic returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined. The least-efficient variant returns 13 mpg city, 21 highway, 15 combined.
Which 2020 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?
The 2020 Dodge Challenger is offered in 9 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Scat Pack Widebody, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Widebody, SRT Hellcat Redeye, and SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Challenger’s core personality with a 7-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It makes sense if you want the look and space without stretching into V8 pricing.
- GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 20-inch wheels, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, and a more upscale cabin feel while keeping the V6 setup. It is also one of the trims that can be paired with AWD.
- R/T: This is the first real step into V8 territory, adding a 5.7-liter Hemi and performance upgrades, including an active exhaust system. Choose it if you want a stronger muscle-car experience without jumping to the pricier Scat Pack.
- R/T Scat Pack: This is the performance-for-the-dollar pick, with a 6.4-liter Hemi V8, Brembo brakes, launch control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen. It is the trim to target if you want the most complete blend of speed and equipment.
- R/T Scat Pack Widebody: This adds flared fenders, wider tires, and a wider track for a more aggressive stance and sharper cornering confidence. It suits you if you want the Scat Pack’s performance with a more planted feel.
- SRT Hellcat: This is for buyers who want huge power, with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and the kind of acceleration that defines the top end of the lineup. It is best if straight-line speed matters more than value.
- SRT Hellcat Widebody: This adds the wider body and wider tires, plus the broader stance that helps the car feel more composed at speed. It is the better choice if you want the Hellcat experience with more cornering confidence.
- SRT Hellcat Redeye: This is the extreme-power choice, with even more output than the standard Hellcat and an automatic transmission only. Pick it if you want the most outrageous performance in the lineup.
- SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody: This combines the Redeye’s maximum-output character with the wider body setup. It is the top choice if you want the most aggressive version of the Challenger.
The safety package is not standard, so if you want driver-assistance features, make sure the specific car you are considering has the right option group.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?
The market looks moderately favorable if you are a selective buyer.
- Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,129 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.38% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $27,616.48, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $29,247 sits slightly below last year's $30,911.
That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale may depend heavily on how well you preserve the car’s condition and mileage. If you buy at the right price and keep the car clean, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation. Higher-demand trims and well-kept examples should hold buyer interest better than rough or heavily modified ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger safe?
It earns a four-star rating in front driver’s side crash testing from NHTSA, five-star ratings for front passenger side testing, and four-star ratings for rollover testing. It has not been evaluated in side-impact testing. IIHS gives it a “Good” result in many crash-test phases, but it also carries an overall “Marginal” score.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also available.
The key caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should verify option content carefully if safety tech matters to you.
Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.38% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 model adds new colors, extra interior choices, and a 50th Anniversary package for some trims.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $31,797, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $29,247 average.
- It leans harder into straight-line speed and high-tech dragster character.
The bottom line: If you want the better value and a broad selection of trims, the 2020 is the smarter starting point. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year and want the Challenger’s more extreme personality, the 2021 is the alternative to compare.
