Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, stylish looks, and comfortable ride, and they also like the spacious interior and unique design. The Challenger’s use of modern technology and its easy-to-use interface add to its everyday appeal.

The main trade-offs are that advanced safety features are not standard and the styling can be polarizing. What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?

At 58.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you get too far into the process, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the car has any accident history. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of hard use, especially if you are considering a higher-performance trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from SXT to GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Scat Pack Widebody, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Widebody, SRT Hellcat Redeye, and SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody. The SXT starts with 18-inch wheels, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen, while the GT adds 20-inch wheels, a hood scoop, remote start, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The R/T Scat Pack adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen.
• Powertrain: The SXT and GT use a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, and they are the only trims with available all-wheel drive. The R/T brings a 5.7-liter Hemi V8, the R/T Scat Pack steps up to a 6.4-liter Hemi V8, and the Hellcat and Redeye models move into supercharged V8 territory with much higher output.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also available.
• Infotainment: Every Challenger gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The available Uconnect 8.4 adds a larger screen and Garmin-based navigation with real-time traffic updates.
• Fuel efficiency: The base V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined. The V6 with all-wheel drive returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, 21 combined. The 5.7-liter V8 with the 8-speed automatic returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined.

Which 2020 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?

The 2020 Dodge Challenger is offered in 9 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Scat Pack Widebody, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Widebody, SRT Hellcat Redeye, and SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Challenger’s core look and feel with the standard 7-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It makes sense if you want the Challenger experience at the lowest starting price.
• GT: This is the best-value choice if you want more style and convenience without jumping into V8 pricing. You get larger 20-inch wheels, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, and the option for all-wheel drive.
• R/T: This is the first trim that brings V8 power, so it is the right pick if performance matters more than features-per-dollar. It adds a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and an active exhaust system.
• R/T Scat Pack: This is the sweet spot for many shoppers because it adds a 6.4-liter Hemi V8, Brembo brakes, launch control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen. It is the strongest all-around performance-for-the-money choice.
• R/T Scat Pack Widebody: Choose this if you want the Scat Pack formula with a wider stance, wider tires, and a more aggressive cornering setup.
• SRT Hellcat: This is for you if outright power is the priority, with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and serious acceleration.
• SRT Hellcat Widebody: This adds the wider body and chassis presence to the Hellcat formula, making it the more planted choice.
• SRT Hellcat Redeye: This is the extreme straight-line option, with even more power than the standard Hellcat.
• SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody: This is the most aggressive version in the lineup, combining maximum output with the wider body setup.

The safety package is not standard, so if you want driver-assistance features, look closely at the optional technology group and other available safety equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?

The market looks moderately favorable if you are a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,961 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,449, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Dodge Challenger's resale value?

The current average of $27,871 sits slightly below last year's $29,637.

That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit easier to buy, which can also mean future sellers may face more competition when they list one. If you own a well-kept example, especially one with desirable equipment or a strong trim, you may still benefit from steady enthusiast demand.

The key for resale is condition and configuration. Lower-mileage, clean-history cars should hold up better than rougher examples, especially because shoppers in this segment often compare multiple trims and engine choices before buying.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger safe?

The Challenger earns a “Marginal” overall score from IIHS and four-star ratings in front driver’s side crash testing and rollover, and five-star ratings for front passenger side testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also available.

The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should pay close attention to option content on any used example you consider.

Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is largely unchanged, but it adds new colors, extra interior choices, and a 50th Anniversary package for some trims.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $31,363, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,871 average.
• It leans even harder into straight-line speed and high-tech performance.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and broad trim choice. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2021 may appeal more if you want the latest version of the Challenger’s muscle-car formula.
