overall

Summary
With 212 currently listed for sale near Detroit, MI and an average price of $25,423, 12.3% of 2020 Dodge Challengers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Dodge Challenger 4.85 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
63.7% of 2020 Challenger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Challenger stands out by blending retro styling with modern technology and heart-pounding performance. It is also one of the last remaining modern muscle cars, and its appeal comes from holding fast to that old-school character while still using current automotive technology to create one of the most fun-loving coupes on the market.
For 2020, the Challenger is largely unchanged, but it does gain several new colors, some additional interior design choices, and a 50th Anniversary package for some trims. That combination helps keep the car fresh without losing the distinctive personality that defines it. Buyers looking for a coupe with a spacious interior, easy-to-use technology, and powerful engine choices will find plenty to like, though the styling may be polarizing and advanced safety features are not standard.

I have to say the Dodge Challenger Widebody Scat Pack is an exciting car all around. It is a heavy, solid old school style MUSCLE CAR in all the good ways...spacious cabin with nice visibility, comfortable seats, all the very (easily) usable bells and whistles you could want and a huge trunk. Lots of engine gives it more than plenty of grunt and I am getting 18mpg all around driving. Solid build, great performance with no issues at all. I couldnt be happier with the value and how the car makes me feel. Very highly recommended!

Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger a good car?
Yes — it earns a 4.85/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, stylish looks, and comfortable ride. Owners also highlight the responsive handling, the spacious interior, and the unique design that helps it stand out from more conventional coupes.
The trade-offs are familiar for this kind of car: fuel costs can run high, back seat space is limited, and some shoppers may wish for a few more convenience features.
For you, that means the Challenger makes the most sense if you want a coupe with personality, strong powertrain choices, and everyday usability rather than maximum practicality.
Good and great deals account for 29.3% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as dependable in the ways that matter most for a performance coupe, especially when it comes to the engine’s strength, the car’s everyday usability, and the sense that it can be counted on for enjoyable driving over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Challenger combines old-school character with current automotive technology in a way that feels well sorted.
Its practical ownership appeal is helped by the fact that the car’s technology and controls are straightforward to live with, which can make long-term use feel less demanding than you might expect from a muscle car.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that performance-oriented ownership can bring higher running costs, so condition and maintenance history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?
At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-performance trim or a car with a lot of miles. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim level you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SXT starts with 18-inch aluminum wheels, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The GT adds 20-inch wheels, a hood scoop, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, and unique houndstooth cloth seats. The R/T adds a V8 and performance upgrades, while the R/T Scat Pack brings heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen.
- Powertrain: The SXT and GT use a 3.6-liter V6 with 305 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, with rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. The R/T uses a 5.7-liter Hemi V8, the R/T Scat Pack steps up to a 6.4-liter Hemi V8, and Hellcat models move to supercharged V8 power.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, while blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also available.
- Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The available Uconnect 8.4 adds a larger screen and Garmin-based navigation with real-time traffic updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The base V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 19 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined. The V6 with all-wheel drive returns 18 mpg city, 27 highway, 21 combined. The 5.7-liter V8 with the 8-speed automatic returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined. The least-efficient variant returns 13 mpg city, 21 highway, 15 combined.
Which 2020 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?
The 2020 Dodge Challenger is offered in 9 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Scat Pack Widebody, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Widebody, SRT Hellcat Redeye, and SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Challenger experience with the standard 7-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It makes sense if you want the look and feel without stretching the budget.
- GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more visual presence, remote start, paddle shifters, and the option of all-wheel drive. If you want a more complete daily-driver setup, this is the trim to target.
- R/T: This is the first V8 trim, so it is the right choice if engine character matters more to you than keeping costs down. It adds the V8 and performance upgrades, making it the natural step up for buyers who want stronger muscle-car appeal.
- R/T Scat Pack: This is the performance-for-the-dollar pick. It adds the 6.4-liter V8, Brembo brakes, launch control, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen, so it delivers the most rounded mix of speed and equipment.
- R/T Scat Pack Widebody: Choose this if you want the Scat Pack formula with a wider stance, flared fenders, and wider tires for a more aggressive look and sharper cornering feel.
- SRT Hellcat: This is for you if outright power is the priority. It brings supercharged V8 performance and the kind of acceleration that defines the top end of the lineup.
- SRT Hellcat Widebody: This adds the wider body and broader tire setup to the Hellcat formula, making it the better pick if you want maximum performance hardware with more planted handling.
- SRT Hellcat Redeye: This is the extreme straight-line choice, with even more power than the standard Hellcat and automatic-only operation.
- SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody: This is the most aggressive version of the lineup, combining the Redeye’s extra power with the Widebody’s stance and grip-focused hardware.
The safety package is optional rather than standard, so check carefully for the technology group and other driver-assistance features on any used example.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Challenger?
The market looks moderate and selective buyers should have room to shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,084 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.21% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $27,612, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Dodge Challenger's resale value?
The current average of $29,053 sits slightly below last year's $30,978.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favorable for buyers, which can also mean future sellers may need to stay realistic on asking price. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s higher average.
The Challenger’s broad appeal helps support demand, especially because it combines strong performance with a distinctive design and usable cabin space. That said, resale will still depend heavily on trim, mileage, condition, and how well the car has been maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Dodge Challenger safe?
The Challenger earns a Marginal overall score from IIHS and four-star ratings in front driver’s side crash testing and rollover testing from NHTSA, along with a five-star rating for front passenger side testing.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, traction control, brake assist, and a child-seat anchoring system. The optional technology group adds forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path alert, and ParkSense reverse sensing are also available.
The key caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should verify exactly which driver-assistance equipment is installed on any used example you are considering.
Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.21% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds new colors, extra interior choices, and a 50th Anniversary package for some trims.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $31,514, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $29,053 average.
- It leans even harder into straight-line speed and high-tech dragster character.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because it offers strong satisfaction, a softer price, and plenty of inventory. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year and want the next step up in price, the 2021 is the secondary path to consider.
