CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Chevrolet Suburban

Summary
With 1,652 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,012, 33.4% of 2020 Chevrolet Suburban listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban 4.75 / 5 stars.
67.9% of 2020 Chevrolet Suburban listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Chevrolet Suburban stands out as a full-size SUV built around space, towing ability, and long-haul usefulness. It carries up to nine people, offers up to 121.1 cubic feet of cargo space, and can tow up to 8,300 pounds when properly configured. That combination makes it especially appealing to buyers who need one vehicle to handle family duty, cargo hauling, and trailer work without giving up the traditional Suburban formula.
For 2020, Chevrolet made no substantial changes to the Suburban, so this model year carries forward the updates that made the redesigned generation more refined and more capable. It has a more polished interior, an infotainment system with up to an eight-inch touchscreen, and safety and driver-assistance features including forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Apple CarPlay was standard, and the available technology and comfort features help explain why the Suburban has long appealed to buyers who want a large SUV that feels well equipped.
The tradeoff is the same one that has always defined the Suburban: size and fuel use. Its gas engines are thirsty, and its large footprint can make it hard to park in many places. Even so, for shoppers who value room, capability, and a proven full-size SUV layout, the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban remains a strong choice.

Having worked in the automotive industry and having owned no fewer than 35 cars;I can be pretty picky when it comes to a vehicle. The Chevrolet Suburban is an iconic vehicle that has been around since the 1930s. Its strength is the fact that it is a pickup based ( full frame) vehicle with a V8 engine. I own one for hauling people and towing. There is nothing on the market that compares to the quality and usefulness of the Suburban. I tried the Ford Expedition and I was not impressed with the eco boost engine or the fuel economy so I returned to the Suburban. The basic LS trim package provides everything a person needs in a vehicle and of course you can always go upscale and buy a GMC Denali XL or a Cadillac Escalade extended length all of which are the same vehicle platform with more bells and whistles and a bigger price tag. All variations of the Suburban, Denali XL and Cadillac Escalade are made in Arlington, Texas so you really are getting an American Made product, which is proudly represented by a skilled UAW labor force. The only thing I wish GM would seriously consider is offering the new 2024 and newer Chevrolet Suburban in a 2500/3500 HD model with both the 6.6 gas and the big L5P Duramax Diesel motor. Some people need the towing capacity that the HD offers but in the form of an SUV for towing horse trailers, boats and campers. If you are needing a large and comfortable vehicle with reasonable fuel economy; this may be the vehicle for you.

The Suburban is in a class of its own. This is a great luxury vehicle that can handle many passengers comfortably. The ride is great and has plenty of pulling power. The downside is the fuel economy and reliability of some of the electronics.

How much does the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $25,970 |
| Year-Round Low | $25,970 |
| Year-Round High | $31,128 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $31,134 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −16.59% |
Prices have softened 16.59% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,654 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban a good car?
Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its spaciousness, smooth ride, and towing capability, and those strengths line up well with its role as a full-size SUV for family duty, cargo hauling, and trailer work. The main tradeoffs are fuel economy and some electronics concerns, but if you want a large, practical SUV with broad everyday usefulness, this model year fits that brief well. With 34.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding a competitive price.
Is the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable for spacious family use and towing, with long-haul usefulness being a recurring strength. At the same time, some owners mention electronics concerns, so you should pay close attention to how the cabin tech and controls behave during a test drive. For used buyers, that means the biggest long-term ownership risk is not the core SUV formula itself, but the possibility of repair headaches tied to equipment and condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Chevrolet Suburban?
At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage or repeated claims. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention on body condition, panel alignment, and any signs of past repairs. Because this is a large, heavily used SUV, you should also focus on how well the interior, electronics, and drivetrain have held up under family and towing use.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Chevrolet Suburban?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,654 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.59% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,970, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban's resale value?
The current average of $25,970 sits slightly below last year's $31,134.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also suggests the market has already adjusted downward from prior levels. If you plan to resell later, the key will be buying a clean, well-kept example so you have less depreciation left to absorb. Strong condition and documented maintenance matter even more when the broader market has already moved lower.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Chevrolet Suburban or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.59% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $37,402, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,970 average.
- It adds a new turbodiesel powertrain for better fuel economy.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and plenty of inventory. If you’re willing to pay more for the newer model’s added efficiency option, the 2021 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritize that upgrade over upfront savings.
