The second-generation Buick Enclave debuted in 2018. The 2020 model brings key styling and technology improvements.
The Enclave is classified as a large premium crossover that seats up to 7 people. Second-row passengers are treated to a pair of captain’s chairs that fold, slide, and recline for maximum versatility. It includes 23.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the split-folding second row. That figure increases to 97.6 cubic feet with both rear rows folded.
All Enclaves come with a 3.6-liter V6 that makes 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque and pairs with a 9-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive (FWD) comes standard, but an intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup is available. The Enclave achieves fuel-economy ratings of 18 mpg city, 26 highway, and 21 combined with FWD. With AWD, fuel economy drops to 17, 25, and 20.
Buick offers the Enclave in Preferred, Essence, Premium, and Avenir grades. The Preferred trim comes standard with a new 8-inch infotainment system, 18-inch wheels, keyless access, push-button start, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, 6 USB ports, 4G LTE hotspot capability, active noise cancellation, heated front seats, and an 8-way power driver’s seat. For 2020, a new Sport Touring package is available for the Essence trim. It replaces chrome with body-colored and dark grey accents, while Premium and Avenir trims now come with a standard massage feature for the front seats. Finally, you can select from three new exterior colors: Champagne Gold Metallic, Rich Garnet Metallic, and Dark Moon Blue Metallic.
As far as safety goes, the Enclave’s standard level of equipment includes a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, and lane-change alert. You can add options like a high-definition surround-view system, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision alert, and adaptive cruise control. The Enclave achieved the highest overall rating of 5 stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The Buick Enclave remains a competent premium crossover for those with plenty of passengers and cargo. It competes with other 3-row SUVs like the Acura MDX and Volvo XC90.
