The A3, a subcompact luxury sedan, is Audi’s entry-level model. Previously, the A3 was offered in coupe and convertible body styles, but the convertible disappears for 2020, leaving just the sedan. The 2020 A3 also gets several minor revisions. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, which makes 184 horsepower and 222 pound-feet of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) and front-wheel drive (FWD) come standard, while Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is an option. Premium Plus and Prestige trims are also available with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that makes 228 hp and 258 lb-ft, and quattro AWD standard. The A3 posts fuel-economy numbers of 26 mpg city, 35 highway, and 29 combined on regular fuel. With the AWD system, those figures dip to 22/30/25. The base Titanium trim is gone for 2020, leaving the Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims. The Premium trim comes with HID headlights, LED daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, 12-way power front seats, an infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. The Premium Plus grade adds keyless access and start, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lights, and wireless charging. Finally, the Prestige trim comes with an LCD instrument cluster, navigation, and heated power-folding side mirrors. New for 2020 is a Final Edition package for Premium and Premium Plus trims that comes with front sport seats in either black or red, contrast stitching, “Audi” exterior welcome lighting, and a premium steering wheel with paddle shifters. Audi addresses safety with a standard reversing camera, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. The Premium Plus and Prestige grades come with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert and front parking sensors, while the Prestige trim gets adaptive cruise control and park steering assist. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) designated the A3 a Top Safety Pick. The Audi A3 combines a tidy shape with premium features, modern styling, and plenty of technology. It competes with other luxury sedans like the BMW 3 Series.
